UA Triad or Byome plugin?

I don't have either Unfiltered Audio Triad or Unfiltered Audio Byome plugins, but want to buy one of them as I have a good voucher for the last day of the currently Plugin Alliance sale.

I'm a little confused, as I've noticed some people buy both.

For me, making a single purchase of one, for now, is the obvious choice Triad, as the newest version, or am I missing something that Byome has that Triad doesn't?

I'm hoping more UA plugins will come to iOS in time too.

  • Byome is said to be a tad simpler, since you don’t have frequency bands. Maybe a bit lighter on resources too. I also only have Triad and don’t miss Byome at all. I’ll only get it on a truly crazy sale or something.

  • Triad is multi-band and allows you to use Byome on each band individually. Either offers a huge amount of FX and Modulation. Triad offers a bit more if you need Multiband processing .

I considered this before buying Triad last month. Triad does come with Byome’s presets and you can just set a single band to be the full spectrum and get virtually the same thing as Byome.

P.s. it can sound really interesting when you modulate the band splits in Triad

    @Darkstring and @Shiloh

Thanks guys. One question I have, is does Triad come with all the presets that Byome does, or do I have to have Byome in order to load those? I'm looking at the info on Plugin Alliance, and it mentions 400 presets in Byome, and doesn't list a number at all for Triad. Can either of you clarify this for me?

Reading the UA website, again, it doesn't mention preset numbers for Triad, but does say it “loads” all Byome presets. So my concern is that if I buy Triad, I still need Byome, but if I buy Byome, I get all the presets, and can add Triad some time in the future when it's back on a good sale, if I even find I needed it.

So, to be clear, I'm not looking to buy both, just one, but I don't think I need multi band processing, as I don't even know what that is. Lighter on resources is a vote for Byome from me.

I also plan to add in the EmptyVessel presets for Byome/Triad, as they offer some lovely preset textures, that fit my aesthetic. I love his creations, and have his presets for Pigments, UA Sandman Pro, and TAL-Sampler.

Currently, on Plugin Alliance, Byome is $49.99 and Triad is $39.99, another reason I want to make the right choice. I do keep feeling drawn to Byome, but I don't honestly know why. Any further info would be most welcome, as I have to make my choice this evening, which is almost over and time for bed.

  • Triad is cheaper right now and does everything Byome does plus more. You could demo both and see :)

How about the presets? Do you know how many presets come in it?

Off to look for the demos…

  • Ah, brilliant, I found what I needed in the manuals when I went to download the free trials.

    Triad also has 400 presets.

    Not a bad deal for $17.99 / £14.39.

  • Byome is more straightforward, if you want to understand, what a preset is doing and don't want a steep learning curve, get byome. Triad does not only have multiband, but also mid side and parallel processing, which probably can be powerful, but makes understanding what's going on more complex, because you first have to figure out, what configuration it's in. I've got them both, but mostly use byome for exactly this reason.

Thanks @tyslothrop1 that's really helpful and important info. Learning curves are important too. I'll give that some consideration before my purchase. Although it would be easier to call if Byome wasn't currently $10 more than Triad.

  • Triad is three Byomes from what I read, so I went with Triad 😂

    Of course

  • You can’t go wrong with either, imo. The auto gain feature on Byome isn’t on triad afaik. And the triad UI is a bit less immediate. But they are both wonderful. I tend to use Triad more these days because of the parallel processing especially, but before it was the other way around for me.
