Eleven Eleven (Korg 01/W)
I recorded this in 1999, back when I actually played real keys. Everything was done with only a Korg 01/W using default presets, and a primitive 4-track recorder. I sequenced the drums and played everything else in real time. Last night I remastered this in Cubasis using the Channel Strip, Studio EQ, FabFilter Pro-Q 3, and MagicDeatheye on the master output.
The title comes from a weird phenomenon that I was experiencing. Apparently, I'm not the only one that this has happened to.

Why am I thinking Seven?
This is another gem, @Paulieworld !
Love the James Bond type sound.
Wow, 4-track recorder!
Lovely!!!
What was the weird phenomena?
Really enjoyed this! I have an 01/w propped against the wall upstairs. A couple of the keys don’t work, but from time to time I midi it up to have a play. I particularly like some of the electric pianos. Your piece inspires me to wrestle once again with the ten ton weight and have another go!
Another good one from the archives @Paulieworld.
No, you’re not the only one. 11:11 follows me like a shadow. 1:11 too.
Wonderful production and a good tune.
Enjoyed this. Nice tune, and I'm a sucker for the vintage Korg rompler sound.
Lovely toon and I'm also a sucker for the Korg old-school romper sound!
The 01/W is one of those 'classic' synths that were used a LOT to by Amiga MOD composer for creating samples...
...it's also the OG synth used in Crystal Waters 'Gypsy Woman' Organ sound...
(When the 01/W initially dropped in the stores everyone wanted to play the organ riff, including me LOL).
Again, top-job on the tune!
Wasn’t “Gypsy Woman” M1?
Could be, that Organ is present on almost every Korg keyboard so far, it's such an iconic sound
All I remember is that the music store had the 01/Wfd (01/W with the floppy drive in it) and Gypsy Woman was one of the demo-tracks on the floppies they had at the stand...
(M1 didn't have a floppy drive so no easy way to distribute demo-tunes to the stores).
I bet the person who worked at that music store still wakes up in the middle of the night (all sweaty) hearing that “Gypsy Woman” organ
Wow this is seriously good! Love it. Great tune and groove. The trumpet solo is spot on. Amazing job beefing this up to modern standards. I like the snare sound. Do you recall what bass patch you used?
My all time fav keyboard is the o1w/fd. And I did a lot of 01w + 4 track stuff back in the 90’s too - This post inspires me to remaster some of my old recordings.
Thanks for sharing!
Could be...
But back to @Paulieworld awesome track.
It's the bass, drums and other sounds being used that tickles my Korg / Amiga Nostalgia Nerve in a good way and those are harder to find on the M1. Some may be present in the WaveStation but not all of them and even then only the raw waveforms not the actual presets...
This is the 5th time I played thru Paulie's track, says something about it doesn't it?
It was supposed to be the next M1, the M10. But they turned the letters upside down.
It sounds so other milleniumy. Very cool.
Thank you, Rene! The primitive 4-track was the Turtle Beach Quad software. Maybe primitive isn’t the best description. It was state-of-the-art at the time. Compared to what we have now, it was primitive, but I liked it a lot. Happy Easter. He has risen!
I recall that I would often look at a clock and the time was 11:11. Nothing special until one night, after rehearsal, somebody said… Look, it’s 11:11! I asked him about it and he said he had been noticing it. My sister’s boyfriend also mentioned it. A few years ago I did a search and found that a lot of people had the same experience. There are a lot of theories, some good, some evil. In any case, I haven’t seen it for a while since I go to bed at 9:00 so I can get up at 5:00am. It’s interesting to think about. Thanks for listening.
Mine is currently under a bed in a spare bedroom. Ironically, mine has a broken key, too. I hope you get a chance to play with it. I agree that it was pretty heavy. I never gigged with it. I’ll probably wait until it’s a collector’s item then sell it. Thank you for listening. Have a great Easter weekend!
Thanks, Ben. We are not alone. Maybe there is something to this, after all. Have a beautiful, relaxing weekend!
Are you only looking at a clock once a day? But what about all the other times you look at the clock? Personally, I probably look at a clock 100+ times a day.
Thanks Mike. I thought you might like hearing me actually play! The organ bit near the end was supposed to be a smokin’ guitar solo by Tony Iovino. He never showed up that day and I had booked time at a studio, so I just threw that in a few hours before I left. Oh well, it filled the gap. Have a blessed weekend.
Thank you so much. I still remember the day I brought it home. I called up my buddies and we had a great jam. Thanks for listening. Have a great weekend!
@Samu @R_2 I love that organ sound. It was actually an accident, but I like how it turned out. Thank you for listening and commenting!
Thank you! I thought it cleaned up pretty good. Would you ever be interested in a collaboration? I promise to give you something nice you can riff on. No rush. Let me know. Have a great weekend!
Holy shit! You’re right. I never saw that. Damn… that’s totally 11:11.
You sound like a young dude. I stopped looking at the clock when I turned 60. Every day is a gift. Make music and have fun while we still can.
Thanks, I guess? I'm not that far from your age, Paulie.
I think a lot of ABF members are in our age bracket. What do young people do these days except poke their phones and complain. We may be the last generation to make music.
Good observation, but quite honestly I've been noticing a bit of a revival among younger people for real instruments. I've seen some of the best guitarists, drummers and quite a few very talented multi-instrumentalists I've ever seen coming up in the next generation. Don't give up on them yet.
I’d love to collaborate some day, it would be an honor. Id have to do it later down the road though, my life is a bit too involved at the moment to commit to a project. Thanks for asking me though. Hope you have a great weekend too!
Pretty good for something 24 years old, cleaned up nicely. You were / are a mean player 🙏
I wasn’t to shabby back in my early days. If you haven’t already, you should check out the latest from @Dav. It’s outstanding. Thanks for listening!
