As Simple as it Gets (Single Strokes Auv3 + a Delay and a Reverb)

I start to get a little bit better hold over the unpredictable but very rewarding app: Strokes 3.10. And here I use only one copy to demo it's power. Just added some delay (OtherDessertCities)and a reverb (Crystalline).
Timing is awful because there's only one CC for patterns and the same for notes so you have to draw a curve (or use velocity but that sucked, big time). Hope this can change because it's not a good system when the best option to draw these curves is LK. (To be clear, there are no notes coming from LK, I only use that for CC)

  • I wrote to John and got an immediate reply👍🏻 , these keys control notes and patterns (I have not found this in the manual but it might be there)
Patterns are on BLACK keys :
    C#-1 = Pattern A
    D#-1 = Pattern B
    ....
    A#-1 = Pattern E

    Note selects on WHITE keys:
    C-1 = Note Select 1
    B-1 = Note Select 7

  • Excellent info, thanks.

  • Sounds great! And thanks for the info. Really liking the sound of Crystalline here too, need to pick that one up.

The Crystalline influence here is very vague but I do use the built in reverb on all eight instruments, very carefully as it's so strange (but in this case dominates over Crystalline). The delay in strokes I have pretty much given up on, it's not very useful whichever way you try to implement it. I tested with the velocity option and it get better with that but still, not good enough. Crystalline is great and it's a nice addition to any sound tweakers arsenal

  • I got a cool result from modulating the delay time. At least I think that's how I got that cool sound...

Seems to me that once he gets individual outs setup, that will be what really makes Strokes shine… I’m kinda holding off I think to see if it happens.

Well, all scientific research require repetition.😂 Let me know when you have a set up you can call a good delay. All I get is very quick repetitions even on 1/2 and 1/1 (at e.g 120bpm).

Thanks man! I'll see if I can do a project with 4 or 5 Stroke Engines (!) working in harmony 😬 That'll be something...

  • Cinematic!!!
I am enjoying your creation a lot!
    Very cool, indeed!

I've had the opposite experience, I quite like the delay in Strokes when I've managed to accidentally dial it in right, but I hate the built-in reverb, seems to be a bit all or nothing and when it's all I don't like the tone. I've been trying to wrap my head around both Strokes and Glitchscaper for the last couple of weeks which has been a hell of a lot of fun, but apparently this means I now make experimental ambient noise. https://streamable.com/r0tvl5

Well, agree to disagree :) Great creation you have going there. Keep make experimental ambient noise, your obviously good at it (and have fun).😁

I’m enjoying using it in standalone (or as one AU) but I definitely see your reasoning. It does seem to be on the roadmap though from what I’ve read here.

Yeah I sorta just see the built in fx as extra spice to the core sound when I want to get weird and not as an actual effect. It’s rare I use built in effects anyway. I’ve only heard good things about Crystalline though. And I own - and love - all their other apps.
