    Another Teaser:

I'm not hearing anything very new or different here, so I wonder what is the big selling point/feature they're going to push?

Same, I mean it's probably personal taste to some extent but these demos do pretty much nothing for me

I actively dislike them. Coming-soons and teasers should be punishable. At least that's what I thought earlier, before I figured out that I can also just not click on them, which is my current go-to strategy.

Wait what? How else would someone promo anything they’re releasing?

Fair point. If this was a serious conversation and not a casual forum thread, I would probably have worded my comment more carefully and said something along the lines of please don't do EMPTY, CONTENTLESS teasers and coming-soons, like "Prepare for something new and groundbreaking from us soon!" There's to many of those to my liking. But I discovered I don't need to click on them, or follow those who post and repost them, so all is good. 🙂👍

Ah I see what you mean. I’m not a huge fan of those, but they don’t really bother unless it’s just incessantly done. Fair enough though!

    Update

“Our first synth is out on Tuesday
Modern synths have gotten so complex, we sometimes forget what sparked our love for them in the first place:

A simple and easily programmable interface. That strange and beastly sound. A new universe of musical inspiration.

BA-1 is designed to bring all that back — with a vengeance.

Click below for a quick listen. Out April 25th at midnight CET.”

I would prefer to see the Synth 😅

Maybe this is the synth :#

  • I just realized that the knob, slider, and speaker are a reference to thr Yamaha CS01. I hope it'll be more powerful than a CS01 though.

  • Yeah, the knob reminded me of CS01 too. Wondering same.

  • The BA-1 trailer sounds good, but I'm still on the fence. Knowing Baby Audio, they'll probably charge the pretty penny for BA-1, and while BA-1 has that "phat sound", it just sounds like "yet another 80s synth" to my ears and nothing really all that new, whereas we all know Buttersynth is unlike any other iOS synth due to its open beta testing, and that Hilda trailer is mindboggling.

Of course I'm not trying to be a pretentious jerk, lol. I'm simply letting you know what my opinion (not fact) is. Grain of salt and all that. I know our good friend @thesoundtestroom will put BA-1 to the test, and then that'll get me off the fence one way or another.

Agree, though a classic Yamaha CS clone would be something new and really cool (except I have Syntronik lol). If it’s done uniquely and sounds good, even another PHAT ANALOG 80s SYNTH could tempt me.

That's fair mate. :) And if it tickles your fancy and interests you, I say go for it and have fun! :) That's ultimately what music creation should be about is having fun.

True that 🍻 but who knows if I’ll be able to afford it on release 😂 I do love the Baby Audio stuff though. But I still haven’t tried Crystalline.

Crystalline is just simply amazing and worth the money. :) I've used it on a few Ambient projects before.

I'm just still skeptical of the BA-1 synth. Then again, maybe the synth goes deep and can do things other synths can't do, but Baby Audio are trying to appeal to more producers with that "nostalgia factor". 😂

It could also, in fairness, just be the taste of the person who made the demos. They all have that particular vibe to them that makes me think they were almost certainly done by the same person. Maybe in someone else's hands those demos could sound completely different and give an entirely different impression of what the synth is capable of. 🤷‍♂️

Oh yeah it’s up there with Knock and Magic plugins for the effects I’m getting next. Excited for it for sure.

    Here’s it is … Baby Audio BA-1

What a great video. Clear and concise.

Top row was pretty boring though. Once he got to the effects section I got a bit more interested - especially the battery slider.

Will see how much it costs.

  • Looks great but for me it's gonna have to be cheap: got a shit tonne of VAs already and with Buttersynth and new Bram Bos synth incoming I really couldn't justify more than a few £€$...

  • @ninobeatz said:

My face while watching the video...

For context, I was bored out of my skull as the nice presentator explained basic synth stuff I already know whilst simultaneously trying to figure out what makes BA-1 any different from other rich-sounding iOS VA synths like iMono/Poly (Montpellier in Gadget) and Model 15.

(But let's be real - I have all of Baby Audio's other iOS offerings, and I wouldn't be surprised if the completionist in me snaps this up when I have the money. 😂 )

Edit: ah the battery/degrader feature means I can now justify a purchase as it's unique. Phew!

    🤣🤣🤣

  • Oh, ok...

  • Looks like a fun little CS-01 clone with a few added extras :sunglasses:

I do wonder (how on iOS/iPadOS) we'll be able to add the external side-chain input to an 'Instrument' slot as most iHosts only allow external audio input to a plug-in when it is loaded into to an 'effect' slot. (Where are the 'Pro Level' DAWs on iOS, like seriously?!).

Also I would have loved to see an inverse envelope option when modulating the filter cutoff with an envelope for those classic 'filter opening on key-release' type of sounds and 'whack, whack duck basses'.

Other additions like envelope > pulse-width would have made it too close to a SH-101 which was clearly not to the intention.

The desktop intro price is $49 ($99 regular) so I guess the iPad version will land at around $24.99 or somewhere in the region when it drops...

Time will tell, but since I've been on an app diet I'll seriously consider this when the iOS version drops...

  • Looks fun, easy to understand and simple but enhanced by Baby Audio effects = winning, manageable debut to the synth world 🙌🏽

  • Looks nice but price is key. It's a bit basic based on looks.
