It's a free app on both desktop and iOS. The cost for development has always been a negative. I think they must be shorthanded right now.

Maybe. And it could be that they are aware of the difficulty of profitability in the iOS music app market and have decided it isn't worth investing in at the moment.

It could also be that for the amount of users/downloads (significantly lower than desktop), the portion of entitled crybabies is much higher.
Especially for a free app.
