You Got What You Wanted - Indie Punk-Pop
This is an attempt to write a song with the energy of songs like Teenage Kicks and Freak Scene: 3 minutes of guitar-driven fun and excitement. Lyrics in the spoiler:
Shake me down, tear me up
Drop me like an empty cup
Let me go so I know
That I’m just a one time show
Just take what you want
You might hurt me on the way
Take what you want
Anyway
You got what you wanted
So take it you want it
You got what you wanted from me
It’s yours if you want it
You got what you wanted
It’s yours if you want it to be
Let me down, at the top
So I really feel the drop
Let me sink in the drink
Let me lie here in the stink
Just take what you want
You might hurt me on the way
Take what you want
Anyway
You got what you wanted
So take it you want it
You got what you wanted from me
It’s yours if you want it
You got what you wanted
It’s yours if you want it to be

Love the beat and the energy, @richardyot !!!
Perfect for my morning drive.
This is truly invigorating and alive!!!
Love the guitar solo, as I expected from you!!!
Thanks for listening The guitar solo is my favourite part of the song, even if the timing is a bit iffy, but IMO that just adds to the chaos and excitement.
This is very much my cup of tea - thanks for sharing! I really like the singing and lyrics. Always love hearing this kind of early punk rock (pre-hardcore/metal phase) type of thing. One suggestion: I think this could be sped up about 5-10 bpm.
Thanks for listening, my normal tempo is around 110bpm, so this song is already scarily fast for me. It’s good to do something different though, outside of my comfort zone.
Well, You seem pretty good at this kind of thing and it’s refreshing to hear a good tight song.
I've tweaked the mix to make it louder overall and also bought the vocal level down a bit:
I made a simple video for this with Wizibel for Instagram and YouTube:
Nice song, made my head bob. Great inspirations, too. Freak scene is one of my all-time favourite songs.
Thanks for listening. I share your love of Freak Scene, it's actually my number one favourite song of all time, I've never got tired of it. Not only is it the best song, it also has the best guitar solo ever recorded, and that's not up for debate.
Yes, I can hear that solo quite clearly in my head, although I haven't listened to it in a while. J Mascis oozes personality in everything he does. I like all the Dinosaur stuff, but Freak Scene is especially close to my heart. And Lou Barlow to me is the best Rock-Bass Player of all times. I've seen them live 3 times and loved them. That's how you age with dignity.
I haven't seen them play since the 90s, but I have all their albums including the excellent comeback records they made after they reformed in 2007. I love J's solo stuff as well. How they aren't one of the biggest bands in the world is a bit of a mystery to me, they have sooo many great songs. Freak Scene, Out There, Start Choppin, Pieces etc etc
Ooh, I wish I could have seen them back then, the concerts I've been at were all in the last ten years. The first time I saw them was live on TV in 92 or 93 on 120 minutes and my fourteen year old self was quite impressed. This:
Nice track as always, Richard !

Thanks! I saw that interview a couple of days ago. I reckon Gaz, like the rest of us back then, was playing it wrong. I used to think it was just D, E, A, Asus4 but it's actually played with slightly trickier variations of those chords, and the D shape is pretty awkward:
When I was in a band in the early 90s we always used to thrash out Freak Scene in the rehearsal room, and my bandmate (who was an amazing musician) once played the solo on a Stylophone plugged into a guitar amp, it was incredible. One of these things:
