Rotary / Leslie effect for Audiobus

Hello,

does anyone know if the GSiRotary app can be used in the "EFFECT" section on Audiobus for other apps to be ran thru it?

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/gsirotary/id1644548509

I'd like to use an audio unit app and have a separate rotary effect app for the sound of the audio unit.

Fast / slow controlled by CC messages is desired.

Thanks.

  • I don’t own it but the app description says it’s an AUv3 plug-in so, all sign point to YES!

    Sweet! Thanks mtenk.

I have a few AUv3 apps that are sound modules but none of them appear available in the "EFFECT" section on Audiobus.

I have a poor understanding of these things but perhaps the GSiRotary app is designed as an effect opposed to a module audio unit?

  • Ahh..good question. I don’t have Audiobus either so I’m not sure of its architecture. Maybe wait for someone else to chime in before dropping the $$$

Thanks for your input. I'm sure there is a way to make it work somehow, I'm just not sure of that at the moment.

I believe AUM allows you to do such things? But I do not have AUM and do not wish to learn how to use it unless it's necessary.

  • Eventide Rotary is AUv3 and I think it may have been free when I got it.
    Might be worth looking at.

Effects modules are ones that take audio input (they take sound input and change it). If an AUv3 generates sound on its own and doesn’t process sound from an audio input it won’t show up as an effect. A synthesizer, for example, might show up as a an audio generator but not an effect.

What AUv3 modules do you have that you expect to show up as effects but don’t?

    Hi espiegel123.

I don't have any AUv3 modules that I would expect to show up as an effect.

I'm really just trying to find out / hoping GSiRotary app will show up as an effect.

My guess is it needs audio to generate the effect desired, so it should?

    Thanks for your help!

Definitely get on YouTube and try to find some sound demos. There seem to be a lot of reviews on Eventide Rotary that say it sounds nothing like a Leslie.

    Hah!

The GSiRotary app sounded decent to me, that's why I'm more interested in getting that running as an effect for some modules.

Couldn't find anything on it being used in such fashion, now I'm here!

  • If you have bought some effects that aren’t showing in Audiobus, try closing the app and turning your iPad off and on. This usually helps for me.

Also someone mentioned the Eventide Rotary effect. I have it and it’s great (and cheap!)

    Good to know!

I haven't bought any effects ever! That's why I am so confused on how this works.

Is the GSiRotary app an effect? It says "this is an AUv3 plugin that can be used with compatible host Apps"

It is indeed. Just like an audio unit on Mac. So it must be loaded into an AU host. I’ve heard good things but haven’t used that one in particular. The other apps I have from GSI are great.

  • Thanks for the reply HotStrange!

I'll give it a go at some point and hopefully it just pops up in the "EFFECT" section as expected.

  • Hmmm. That reminds me of the idea to build a Leslie effect in Drambo one day.
Will purchase a Neo Ventilator soon so I have a good reference 😉
