if you can wait - the release of Audio Things space echo emulation should be out sometime in the upcoming months - it'll most likely be the best one once it comes out. I can't wait!!!!
Yup.
+1 on waiting for the AudioThing Outer Space, I have it on OSX and it will be worth the wait if you insist on getting a Roland copy. It’s just awesome.
In the meantime, if you can’t wait you can take a look at AudioThing most recent delay release called Mantis. In a way I feel it comes close as you can set different patterns in the delay lines (like you have on the Space Echo) and the ‘rotafaze’ sliders can act like giving the sound an old tape-kind off feel. Besides that, it sounds very analog. Everything AudioThing creates is worth gold. Listen to some demos.

I quite like RE1 tape machine.. a nice dark saturation but.. I have no idea how it compares to others or a real space echo.
That GS201 seems a bit cooler with a BBD chorus.

-Toneboosters TB ReelBus (not the same feature set, but a quality tape echo)
-Fabfilter Timeless 3
-Yonac ToneStack PRO (there's a "Cosmic Echo" in the effects, which is basically a Roland Space Echo)
-IK Multimedia's MixBox has a Tape Echo
-Klevgrand's Modley (has some tape effects, but nothing approaching the complexity of a Space Echo)
-CHOWTapeModel (per @Grandbear: This one emulates tape character; doesn't have a delay)
-Imaginando K7D
-Numerical RE1 Tape Echo
-VirSyn Tap Delay (different kind of echo, but lots of great options)
-Caelum Audio Tape Pro (a solid alternative with tons of options... but ALWAYS use a limiter with this one!)
-yaleD (I think this one may not be available for download any longer, but it has some of the coolest tape effects I've ever used on iOS)
That's really the one I've been waiting for because the desktop version is so great.
Keep in mind that this only emulates tape character; it doesn't have a delay
+1
If you set it right has the best sound of any universal delay (can’t comment on iPad only).
True. I'll add that note to my impromptu list, above.
I was curious to know what was inside this pedal

yaleD is available…and awesome
Good to hear. And yes, it is awesome.
👍
My personal opinion about GSi’s GS201 Space Echo is that it cannot stand in the shadow of AudioThing Outer Space.
And the onboard spring reverb is a bit of a letdown to put it mildly, although some do like it.
GSi’s Echo B2 on the other hand (not a tape delay but a Binson Echorec emu that has a spinning magnetic disk instead of tape) is VERY good, I would put my money on that instead of the GS201. It oozes character and sounds very vintage (beware, no sync (same with GS201) but that’s part of the fun). Tape feel can be brought in with ChowTape if that’s really an important element you want. I doubt when you hear the sound that goes through this. https://apps.apple.com/nl/app/echo-b2/id1640987290
I have most of the above suggestions, and although all highly recommended and excellent delays on their own, to me most lack that true analog character a vintage delay has. If you want to feel the electricity, hear the blurb, the buzz and the hiss; GSi and Audiothing.
I think with delays it’s the same as with reverbs, you can’t have enough of them and it is a very personal thing depending on the style of music you make.
The closest to my real 201 in my opinion is any plain jane delay with an IR put on the wet signal.
The emulations sound way too dirty.
I use Imaginando’s K7D the most. While the presets focus on wild and wacky sounds, it can also do straightahead space echoes.
Love K7D!
