Pure Synth Platinum

Are the preset sounds on Pure Synth Platinum created electronically like an actual synth or sampled recordings?

Anything else worth noting before one purchases the app?

Thanks.

    I believe it’s a hybrid: synth/sample

There must be a large part that use samples, with the app size being 6-7 gb on my iPad.

    Thank you Stuntman_mike & ehehehe.

That's what I was thinking judging by the sound of it from videos.

Is there any similar apps that are purely synth created?

I'm looking for some basic presets e.g. strings, harpsichord, flute, trumpet, viola etc. that can but altered with sustain and cut off parameters.

This is exactly you can do in Pure Synth Platinum

A similar app would be something like Syntronik.

The only reason I didn’t mention it because there’s no such presets like viola, trumpet, etc. in Syntronik.
But yes, Syntronik is also great.

  • For the sounds you’re looking for @walnut you might consider BeatHawk. Best harpsichord, Celeste I know about. Has ADSR adjustment. A venerable app, for sure.

Read the sentence before the one you quoted.

    "Synthesis" ...

What Pure Synth does is synthesis. It uses waveforms taken from the sounds it emulates as oscillators, rather than mathematical sine, saw, etc. waveforms. Other than the waveforms it's a normal subtractive synth. It has a large number of presets and these can be altered in every way. It's a good answer for the question actually asked.

I think you're assuming this was about "physical modeling" rather than synthesis. I don't think that's what the question was about.

You did not yet get any answer 😅

    For strings, I know those:

    There are surely more ...

Haha! I know, I am just feeling a bit defeated at the moment.

I'm trying to recreate an atypical organ that there is no such app for. I've posted a separate thread in search of some insight on how to achieve this but I haven't gotten very far yet.

    https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/55186/is-anything-not-a-hammond#latest

In that thread Pure Synth was suggested but I'm not looking for recorded samples or anything to "good" in terms of sounding accurate to the actual instruments in the presets I'm looking for.

This is the sound I'm after:

So I was thinking of running some type of synth thru a rotary app like GSiRotary since that is essentially what the old Lowrey organs did.

Here is another thread I posted on adding that rotary effect:

    https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/55196/rotary-leslie-effect-for-audiobus#latest

iOS software instruments are a new thing to me and the folks on this forum have been super helpful.

  • Also that instrument is designed in a way that all of those sounds can be stack on top of each other so I'm also having some difficulty achieving that.

    Again, thanks all!

I’m surprised that nobody has mentioned Galileo 2? I personally don’t like it that much because I’m more of a B3 sound type of person but, I feel like you should be able to get some sounds out of it that are similar to that video.

Edit: oops, realized that I posted in the wrong thread. The OP is the same one that was asking about an organs so I’m going to leave it.

  • Hi @mtenk , Galileo 2 have many trouble when it come to its GUI , very pricey and to my opinion no worth the buy.

As I mentioned, I’m not really a fan of it either…BUT, for the organ sound that @walnut is looking for, it may be perfect.

Korg Module but it’s not nearly as in depth. Thumbjam can do some of this too but is mostly sample based. You could also try the Taqsim apps for free.

PSP is the best at what it does, though. In my opinion at least. It’s great. And the free version has a decent amount of features and presets.

Klevgrand Hillman is what you’re looking for 🙏🏻 no samples, just pure synthesis:

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/hillman-synth/id1488336769

    App Store Description:
“Hillman is a synthlike instrument inspired by old combo-organs, string machines and similar vintage gear.
4 voices per note, each with selectable waveform (transistorish, tubeish, sine and special plasma), octave switch and a level control.
Sounds are generated with an analog approach, but does not use samples or sampled wavetables.“

Hillman has been my personal favorite for years ❤️

    Wow, wow. Yes, yes!

    Thank you Stuntman_mike!

Super simple, fills the bill, just lovely.

As mentioned, brand new to software instruments and primarily an organist of course the Hammond sound was easily obtainable but I was not able to find this.

Thank you all again for the input!

Grabbed Hillman yesterday, yes, this really scratches my organ itch while giving more flexibility than many organ apps due to having an adsr. I tend to turn off the chorus and phaser and use my own fx where needed. I saw some ppl calling Hillman cheesy sounding, that's largely due to heavy use of chorus on many presets, imo. Really like it!

Yeah Hillman is definitely one of - imo - Klevgrands best instrument apps. I ended up getting Spinn and Reamp during the sale and am surprised at how much I’m enjoying both so far - especially together.

Sidenote: do you have Torero Organ? It’s a clone of an old, less common Farfisa (Matador maybe) that sounds great and also has an ADSR. I think it’s pretty cheap, too.

I get what you mean for sure. Organs and Mellotrons are possibly my 2 despite keyboards ever so I want them all and use them all lol
