Audio interface that can send metronome to only headphones
Does anyone know any audio interfaces that send metronome to a separate headphone out in loopy pro? I use an Audient evo8 which I love and has 2 seperate headphone jacks but Audient don't make the evo software for iPad unfortunately so even though I can see output 3/4, when I send the metronome to these tracks it does nada squat didely.
Comments
I don't know Loopy, but has it to be a Metronome, or would a loop with just hihats or rimshot also be good enough? Is it possible to send such a loop to a selected output?
And I have an Audient ID4 and from what I have read, you can setup a routing on mac or windows PC with the Audient software, and the device remembers this when used on Ipad. So maybe for EVO this is also possible?
Disclaimer: this reply could be a load of crap because I don't have experience myself....
Are you asking for a multi-out interface with more than one headphone output that lets you monitor different outputs through the different headphone outputs?
If that’s it, you might want to edit the thread title and explanation to be less specific. The issue isn’t particular to metronomes though that is your particular application. It might help you get more responses.
I use the Akai EIE (the red version) It has a switch that lets you choose wich channel goes to the headphones output. You can send 1-2, 3-4 or all outputs simultaneously.
If you have an interface with more than 2 outputs you can also use a headphones amplifier, send the click to the input and connect your headphones to the amplifier
And how are you sending your mix to the P.A.? I need to have an audio interface for my guitar and mic and the main outs go to the P.A. and the seperate mix with a metronome goes into my ear. I don’t want the audience hearing my metronome. Most decent loop pedals have this option
Yeah I struggle with words! Always have unfortunately. I just want an audio interface with good pre’s tht has 4 outs where I can send main mix without metronome to P.A. and mix with metronome to my monitors only
I’m gonna try
Nope no luck. If only audient would write an iPad app!
I send 1-2 to the PA, the click to output 3 and set the headphones out to all. That way I get the stereo mix plus the click track in my headphones.
@theinfinate : can you clarify something. Does your iPad see all of your audient’s outputs? Is the issue only that you can’t control which outputs are sent to the headphone output?
Yes loopy pro sees all the outputs but they are all exactly the same, this happens on max too but there is a setting in the software to change to an artist mix so the 3&4 are a seperate mix.
That akai eie looks like a tank! Only 44.1 kHz I see. I like using 48khz
Arturia minifuse 4?
Unless I am misunderstanding, why not send main mix to 3/4 and metronome to 1/2?
That’s how I do it.
If only I could, the evo8 needs software to be able to make that setting, there is no app on the iPad for evo interfaces
Does it work? Do you have one?
It seems strange that LP can see the outputs but they don’t work? I am guessing they’re turned down by default and need to be turned up in the desktop software.
An alternative to your situation might be to use The Metronome by SoundBrenner? I use that a lot for giving somebody a sync’d click.
Do you have any acquaintances with a PC or Mac that would let you install the software temporarily to make the setting?
Or just use a light based metronome app ? You could run it in a background window using Stage Manager if your ipad supports that perhaps?
Yeah it is strange, the outputs work but 3&4 mirror 1&2 which happens on mac as well until I change a setting in the software. This is only a software change and it doesn’t remember it when plugged into an iPad. I didn’t like the sound Brenner, it just weirded me out. I thought it was going to be great but i couldn’t vibe with it
Loopy pro has a light metronome but I can’t use it as I’m looking at my fretboard or midi pads
So far it seems like behringer flow 8 is a good choice. It’s $500 au so not cheap, not expensive but lately I’ve been getting anxiety when I think about all the money I spend on music gadgets and the fact that I don’t make hardly any money with the tools, id love to not have to spend any more but I really need the metronome in my in ear monitors as well as my didgeridoo player.
The Behringer 1820 should work.
It has two headphone outputs and you can select 1-2 or 3-4 outputs for each headphone with physical buttons on the front of the unit. No need for control panel software.
And it’s cheap and gets you a ton of IO and you can expand it with ADAT.
I have one at my office. If I remember I’ll take my iPad there next week and try it.
it’s core audio so should work fine on iPad.
Thanks heaps man but that thing is huge! I want to fit it in my live case which already has an apc40, an iPad and a Roland spdx. The behringer flow 8 is cheaper and from what others have said will work. I’d prefer something even smaller than that as I only have a guitar and mic to plug in.
It’s getting a bit old now but I am using an old M-Audio Fast Track Pro for live for a similar reason. It has 4 outs that do work with iOS. You could find one for $50 used.
Ahh cool man, thats great info! Il look for one. Is it powered by the iPad?
Yep.
I also have a Zoom U-44 that has higher sample rate but the Akai has better I/O and a built in usb hub. I can connect a hard drive, all my midi gear and it even has 4 inserts.
Thanks all for the help, i went into my local music store and tried a couple out, I ended up buying the focusrite 4i4 which works great!
