Free stereo and HQ audio alternative to Zoom ?
Are there any other free video conferencing platforms that allow for stereo and high quality audio ?
We have used Zoom for one to one online jamming and for our online open mic group for a long time. Now Zoom has introduced a forced 10 minute break before you can reconnect with your free meeting again. On top of that I see little, or better no feature related development on the Linux client - apart from now having that dreaded white “Z” hanging in my taskbar.
I had a look at a few already:
- jitsi meet: The server supports stereo and HQ audio technically, but I think the public system at meet.jit.si does not. The beta site had it enabled on and off. And I would love a system that allows an easy audio configuration through the UI instead of the quirky configuration URLs that are needed in jitsi.
- SonoBus: No video, but works great - mostly. Sadly there is no “non p2p” / TCP proxy option and so it does not work when both of you are behind a NAT and cannot forward ports manually.

Give https://VDO.ninja a try, great flexibility, tons of options including higher quality audio if you want it... although you may need to dig into the options API to get the most from it.
And I assume you meant SonoBus for the second one , a future version will support the ability to set up a relay server for dealing with symmetric NAT issues, but it's not there yet.
Apologies for not being able to tell humans and computers apart… :-) And thanks for suggesting vdo.ninja.
I just had a look at it: Absolutely cool!
