Before And After / with SWAM Alto Sax

@McD requested a redo of JAZZstanbul with a SWAM Sax instead of the sometihinh to be desired iFretless Sax (of the Sensual Sax ilk).

Since I did the original track with Cubasis2 I had to work with that. Unfortunately, I barely got this take done before the track corrupted somehow. CB2 was always a bit glitchy for me, but this was very difficult, indeed! Still, it’s pretty good, I think. And no more distortion, I believe. Mixing or mastering on bookshelf speakers, no matter how good, not such a good idea.

Here’s the original for a 30 second comparison of the iFretless Sax.

Comments

  • Sounds so much better with swam, but I want to hear the bass and piano turned up a bit in the new version. Especially the bass.

  • That really fixed it for me.

  • @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr i think I finally got it right… almost.

@McD happy to be of service.

It’s wonderful when artists can accept “notes” and do remixes. I know that I’d probably just make something new but this particular exercise is an “Alpha” and “Omega” that shows how you’ve mastered a new domain just by hanging out here and asking questions to build a base of knowledge, tools and skills. It’s a bit of a tribute to Cubasis and what an old school jazz musician can do with an iPad.

Now it’s got too much reverb. I mean, I’ve listened to it four or five times by now so you know I really like it. MaybeI’m nitpicking too much.

  • Simply lovely.
    Both renditions are superb.
    Love both!

  • I have to agree, the SWAM sax sounds better. I think Sensual Sax has its place, but not here. As I listened, I felt like this was a live improv with everybody on the same page. I especially enjoyed the acoustic bass, but I’m biased. Nice one, Mike.

  • Excellent “improve” on the improv! The last remix version is perfect to my ears.

  • Thanks @Paulieworld @ReneAsologuitar @Edward_Alexander it’s iFretless Sax not Sensual Sax. Either way, those early simulations were not too god. We’re lucky to have SWAM. I’m excited about trying them on OSMOSE.

Lol, @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr i think I’m tuckered out on this track, but i’m glad you listened to it several times.

Great track! Feels like I’m sitting in a smoky little dive sipping a glass of brandy just groovin to the music.

  • Great music, the Swann sax is better more sensual , more articulate and groove a very nice track. You dis a great job love your music. Listening to it I should have a glass of red wine in front of the sea.

  • Thank you @rheslip and @BerlinFx. Appreciate your commenting a lot.
