  • @richardyot I've not been around for a while but dropped by and saw that you had reached the 100 consecutive month milestone.

    Wow. Congratulations, it's quite an achievement. I admire your tenacity and have enjoyed your music along the way (sorry, must admit I've not listened to all 100!)

    Welcome back - be sure to post a song or two around here, I always really loved your contributions.

    Wow, this is a change of pace from your usual output - a light, almost delicate, symphonic piece. It's nicely arranged with melodies that weave in and out to create interest and variety. The drums are very tastefully and sparsely used and all the pieces fit together very well.

    There is a palpable sense of story in the music, ebbs and flows, moments of drama, moments of calm, it's beautifully cinematic.

    Congratulations on reaching a lofty 100 consecutive months. Apparently, the first 100 are the most difficult. Should be a piece of cake from here on out.

    Here's my entry for the month. It was improvised just a few weeks before someone very close to me passed away.

    I used two MIDI keyboards connected to an iPad. Bome Network software routed the iPad's MIDI notes to Bitwig Studio on a desktop PC. And from there, the MIDI notes were routed to Solo (for the bassoon and violin) and Omnisphere (for the background instruments).

    It's titled The Wake.

    I love the melancholy feel, and the string sounds are awesome. The cello (or is it a viola?) melody is really haunting and beautiful. I think this is one of the best pieces you've posted, some really beautiful music.

    My entry this month, lyrics in the spoiler:

    Shake me down, tear me up
    Drop me like an empty cup
    Let me go so I know
    That I’m just a one time show

    Just take what you want
    You might hurt me on the way
    Take what you want
    Anyway

    You got what you wanted
    So take it you want it
    You got what you wanted from me

    It’s yours if you want it
    You got what you wanted
    It’s yours if you want it to be

    Let me down, at the top
    So I really feel the drop
    Let me sink in the drink
    Let me lie here in the stink

    Just take what you want
    You might hurt me on the way
    Take what you want
    Anyway

    You got what you wanted
    So take it you want it
    You got what you wanted from me

    It’s yours if you want it
    You got what you wanted
    It’s yours if you want it to be

    Cool track, I like the extra heft from the guitars and contrast with the vocals.

    Nicely done as always, good way to mark the 100th month (I really don't know how you do it!)

    Yes, a definite change of pace.

    It was all inspired when I bought a few Spitfire Originals libraries (the cheap and cheerful ones!) during their Xmas sales. I made it with my old band mate from Burnt Earth. The Spitfire libraries sound lovely and it just inspired us to want to make orchestral/soundtrack type music, maybe revisiting some of our old songs and reinterpreting them. No longer having a vocalist obviously changes our approach but we've not been this productive for over a decade.

  • @DavidEnglish a lovely tribute. Restful, respectful and above all it sounds beautifully composed - so the fact that you actually improvised is remarkable. Your use of tasteful instrumentation (and their quality) is exceptional.

  • @klownshed Great piece, constantly evolving and progressing in a “logical” almost storytelling way if that makes sense. It’s funny how the purchase of a new instrument can inspire new music and in this case a new direction. That’s happened to me a good few times over the years. It actually ends rather suddenly and unexpectedly - I would have enjoyed a “slowing down” phase possibly. Beautiful piece of music - I really loved it.

  • @richardyot
    A fitting rock anthem for your 100th edition. Great guitar sound and licks. Even has feedback from the guitar. One of your best.

    @BillS
    Very cool opening with electric guitar and just-right backup singing. A protest song that somehow manages to be both hard driving and astute. Love it.

    @GeoTony
    You had me going with this one. Sounds like AI is getting a little impatient with all the training that we ask it to do. Que the movie trailers for 2001: A Space Odyssey and Colossus: The Forbin Project.

    @klownshed
    A fine opening with lush orchestral strings. Stays interesting throughout with soaring melodies, epic flourishes, and melancholy touches. Ambitious and exploratory, yet still holds together. Very impressive.

    Cool song. I like song and the vocals in general. I’d personally make the backing a bit more spiky, aggressive and punky to match the lyrical content.

    @GeoTony
    Nice piano piece, I like the discordant bit at the end too, which I thought could have been even more in-your-face and shocking! Not sure about the vinyl effect though. A bit too much to be honest, could do with being much lower in the mix.

    @DavidEnglish
    Really nice improv. The string sounds are really good and very well performed. Really nice legatos. Not sure why the iPad is needed in your setup? Speaking as somebody that never does these kinds of improvisations, I’d want to mould the best bits into an arrangement and give the melodies a chance to become hooks. But that’s just me. I wish I could improvise that well :-)

    Thanks for all your comments too… I appreciate the feedback. And again, kudos to @richardyot for 100 consecutive months and literally a ton of great tunes.
