DerVoco by BeepStreet Currrently Only $0.99! Video Demo

DerVoco by BeepStreet Currrently Only $0.99! Video Demo

DerVoco by BeepStreet (Drambo devs) is only $0.99 for a limited amount of time - 70% off, an absolute bargain. And yes, it is AUv3!

This demo has a slightly Boards of Canada style vibe I think / hope. Enjoy!

See Pinned Comment for link etc and details of other apps used etc. This is a really cool vocoder, especially at this price, and is available for both iPad and iPhone.

Really nice vocoder, nice video, too. I like to use it sort of like a fixed filter bank on drums with the left right carrier modulator input mode. A pity, it doesn't expose any AU-parameters afaik.

  • Patch on ButterSynth here is a lovely one by @dendy btw 🔥👏

    Ah - I didn’t check that, that’s a pity indeed.

Seems like a Beepsteet thing, the AU parameters are exposed in Sunrizer, but a lot is missing.

Cool demo @Gavinski Has some Daft Punk vibes as well. I think this vocoder might work well on synth/rhythm in interesting ways, at least that’s what I would want to use it for :)

You could do tons with it. It’s a very intuitive interface. Daft Punk - Nice! I guess they’ve also been one of the main exponents of dreamy vocoder in recent years too. And yes, definitely would like to try this with some sequenced Gauss drones, among other things!

  • Nice, thanks @Gavinski . Apologies for going off topic but does anyone know how to get the mic/sample recording to work in Beepstreet Gyrosynth? Grabbed it when it was free last week but I can’t work out how to do it? Factory samples work fine but pressing mic Record doesn’t seem to do anything? What am I missing - anyone able to check?

  • @Gavinski
How are you getting this to sound like a vocoder?
Whenever I put anything through it, just sounds like a really unpleasant static filter.
    Settings seem approx the same.
Is there a load of movement in the synth patch or something? Thanks!

You need to follow the instructions about how to set it up correctly! They can be found in the standalone app with screenshots etc. Looking at this will be a lot easier than trying to understand a purely written explanation.

As long as you know how to set up busses in AUM it should be pretty simple, if not my '(Almost) Everything you need to know about AUM' video is timestamped and has a section on how to do that, as does the AUM manual. Good luck!

  • Ah, it now sounds like a vocoder!
What a massively lazy kn*b I was. Thanks for making me RTFM!
Looking fwd to messing with it now.
    Thanks again!

Sorry to sorta hijack this thread but Gav’s timing is perfect…(and yes, I am getting cool BoC vibes from the track)

Does anyone know if the following is even possible within Cubasis. I’ve got DerVoco on an audio track as an Insert Effect and I want to play DerVoco’s keyboard as per attached YouTube clip and record it

I can’t find any way to record it. I’ve tried using both the FX and M(midi?)FX version. Is this something to do with the carrier signal or a limitation of CB3. I do wish Cubasis would just let me record live audio tweaks.

Would adding the sample to Koala with the MFX version added as a MIDI effect solve this?

Don't really use cubasis. Think @McD does though?

    Cheers.

I'd still be interested to know anyone plays the keyboard and records the result on any host though.

Here’s an example setup in AUM. This requires two sound inputs:

    • CARRIER (the sound you hear) - panned HARD LEFT - a string patch in Tera Pro.
    • MODULATOR (the provides the rhythm) - panned HARD RIGHT. The amplitude of the MODULATOR modulates the amplitude of the CARRIER.

The carrier and modulator are both sent to the mix bus which has Der Voco on it.

In my example, Der Voco is set to 100% Wet, but mixing dry/wet can give interesting results too. Also, I’ve played the tracks unvocoded initially to demonstrate what the inputs sound like, and how they are panned.

Der Voco is set to INPUT MODE which allows you to use your own carrier, which is much more flexible, otherwise it will use INTERNAL mode, which uses the built in synth as CARRIER.

In INPUT mode the AUM notes are being sent to Tera Pro, but in INTERNAL mode they would need to be routed to Der Voco to play its internal synth, and you’d need to use the MIDI FX AUv3 version in that case as the non-MIDI version doesn’t accept incoming MIDI.

I’ve included two modulator examples (drums and spoken audio) for demo purposes, but one modulator is enough to get it working.

    Hope this makes some sense.

I'd start a new thread or at least resurrect a Gyro synth one. I didn't bother grabbing it as I'm drowning in synths :D

Wow. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this, I really appreciate it 🙏.

I'll have a go at setting this up in Cubasis.
