My first "Creation" share - "An Album Attempted"

Hi AB forum members,

I've yet to post any of the music I've made since starting on my recent journey learning how to create music. About a year and a half ago, I took the plunge and purchased an iPad Pro and an Arturia Keystep 37. It was very intimidating to start as I had minimal musical background beyond childhood piano and a brief sting dj'ing minimal techno in the late 90's early 2000's. This forum... you all, have been so inspiring and instructive. Everything I have learned comes from reading posts on this forum daily, reading as much as I can about electronic music, and watching youtube creators and educators like @thesoundtestroom and @Gavinski (and many, MANY other talented creators). I can't express my appreciation in words. "Thank you" doesn't seem like enough.

Anyways, enough rambling. My first album, An Album Attempted is a mix of 11 or so individual tracks and various field recordings. It is honestly a little intimidating putting this out there in this forum but I would really love to get feedback from anyone willing to take on the ~47 minute listen:

...

If you don't have the time for a long listen, but have time for an individual track listen, I would love to hear thoughts on: Mosquito and Firelfly (or any other tracks you come across on my SoundCloud page):

Thank you for all the help along the way, I appreciate any and all feedback! I'm looking forward to contributing more vocally in the forum in the future.

Thanks again all!

Josh

  • Hi Josh. I think I speak for most of us that we’re glad you’re here. I didn’t have the chance to listen to the album, but I like the single. I have a similar experience. I bought an iPad Pro not knowing what I would do with it, but it just started to grow. Keep writing music and posting here. You are among friends.

  • :) thank you @Paulieworld !

  • This is great! Really nice listen!!!!

  • Nice how you manage weird sounds in Mosquito and firefly

Some nice sound design there, and a sparse but effective arrangement.

  • @sevenape , @BerlinFx , @richardyot : I sincerely appreciate your ears and supportive feedback.
I've found myself spending hours on individual sound design so I definitely like the atomic synthesis / patching part of making music. Composition/arrangement and mixing + mastering has been very challenging and there's so, so much to learn. Would love to hear about any helpful resources you've come across that have been game changing for you!

As a fellow sound collagist, I find this inspiring stuff. Great originality in the textures used and musicality in their orchestration. I look forward to hearing more in the future. :)

  • Thank you, @Svetlovska! I appreciate the kind words. I am currently enjoying your soundcloud (and have listened through forum links in the past). Always impressed! Such talent!

  • Good stuff @jihi. I always like insect inspired music as there are 25 lbs of insect for every pound of human
(Last I heard). Willlisten to your album. Keep going, bro.

  • Listened to M&F, interesting sounds nicely put together. Great to have a new voice onboard 👍
Will have a listen to your other pieces soon. All the best.
