Funny how up to now I've mostly heard people debating the "realism" of Pianoteq. I think ABF members may blow the top off of that.
I'm confused by your mention of "Stage version". That page of modeling settings is not available in the "Stage version". It is available in "Standard" and "Pro" versions, or the demos of either of those versions.
I wonder whether the Neupert Clavichord is one of the free antique instruments that you don't get access to until you buy a paid version of Pianoteq. Maybe that's what you mean that you mean by not having access to it until you get "the Stage version". In that case, it's buying Stage version that gave you access to the clavichord, but that tweaking page is not available in the "Stage version".
If you have the "Stage version" of Pianoteq, then it looks to me like you're running that clavichord instrument within a demo of the "Standard version". In which case you have the 20 minute timeout and disabling of certain keys.
That was a mistake - corrected now. I meant the Standard version. I find the names a bit confusing, because to me ‘Standard’ sounds like the basic version. But yes, tweaking is only available in Standard, not Stage, which means you have to cross the $260 barrier of entry, indeed.
And yes - about realism - I personally couldn’t really give a damn. I love beautiful instruments and I love experimentation. Whether the pianos etc are exactly like the real instruments, I couldn’t care less. But they sound amazing and they play beautifully. Personally, I’m more into the aspect of pushing these sounds into that interesting space between real and not real. And you’re right, many here are in that boat!
And to increase the tweakers delight: there’s a pro version where you get to modify the harmonic content on a per note level.
As a person that tends to avoid getting lost in sound tweaking I’m going for Pro anyway because I want all my synths to create
“acoustic alien instruments” and this really looks like there will be new sounds that seem real.
I love instruments crafted out of metal like steel pans, hang drums, gamelan, etc. This demo show that those sound are available with these internal adjustments of the Modartt Models.
💯 exactly. I love taking “real” instruments and pushing them to their extremes, which is one reason this app interests me so much. Gimme that uncanny valley piano lol
Definitely! I must say, I think I definitely prefer the tweaked Pianoteq kind of uncanny valley to the Klevgrand Tomofon kind of uncanny valley
It’s hard to say because I haven’t actually fully tried Pianoteq and Tomofon is one of my favorite new apps, but based on your demo I’m tempted to agree. Need to dive into those exposed AUM parameters.
So they are exposed to everyone? Did you check? I would highly suspect they are!
In the raw demo you can see lots, but many are marked ‘locked’…
I haven’t checked everything, I was just going based off other comments but I sincerely hope so
You're right, and these 'locked' params are of course inaccessible for automation, though you can see in the demo that they're there.
I just got the most basic Stage demo going on my other iPad to check this. I was already running a licensed Standard version on my main iPad, so was unable to view behavior of the Stage demo anymore. Stage demo seems to show all the AUv3 parameters, including those from higher versions, but only the ones appropriate for Stage are accessible.
Also, I think I had said in earlier post somewhere that you could automate the modeling AUv3 parameters in the demo versions of Standard and Pro, but this was incorrect. I was confused, running on my Standard licensed version (not the demo) so never actually observed this. It turns out that the accessible AUv3 parameters in Standard and Pro demos are limited to those accessible in the Stage demo. So, no automation of Standard and Pro AUv3 parameters (which include the main modeling parameters) in any of the demos, although you can change them directly in the user interface (as Gavinski did in the video that started this thread).
Ah, that's a pity, hmm, thanks for checking!
Well, this is confusing, actually, because I just looked through the auv3 parameters list in aum and didn't see any that were locked, neither when I was running demo mode or using paid instruments. I also automated some of the design presets like bloom, both in paid and demo instruments in aum with zero problem. Have I misunderstood something in your post maybe?
I don't think you've misunderstood what I said. I double checked and seems I'm still seeing all those Design parameters locked in my demo of Standard version. But this is on a machine where the Stage version is still in demo, too, nothing licensed at all. I suspect you're running the Standard demo on a machine where you have a licensed Stage version, and that Modarrt has set things up so you can use AUv3 automation of Standard and Pro versions if you're running on a Stage licensed machine. Does that sound right?
Maybe you know already but with the standard license you can morph instruments together. For instance a harpsichord with a marimba and see what comes out of it.
Yeah, that’s gonna be mad fun!!
Sounds confusing lol - my brain hurts!! 😂
Oh no another reason for me to get this 😂
