Alpha Octantis - Pianoteq solo

Another in my group of pieces named after stars in the constellation Octans. This uses the Pianoteq model Grand Steinway D (Hamburg).
It's great to finally get Pianoteq on iOS!

  • This is a beautiful composition. Is this an improvisation or composed? Parts of it remind me of something Ravel might have done when he was working on new sketches. The Pianoteq sounds great, too. I might have to buy that this weekend.

  • This is great, now I want Pianoteq.. but I also want your playing skills :# Nice!

Thanks! but as I've mentioned elsewhere, my actual keyboard skills are paltry. I improvise chords into various arps and such, record the midi and then do a lot of midi editing and pruning. Sometimes I'll add actual playing to embellish it. It's more like a sculptural construction.

  • Excellent construction work!!!
    Pianoteq is truly appreciated!
And your musical creativity is much loved!

  • An excellent showcase of the dynamics available with Pianoteq. With my current financial responsibilities it’s a little out of my budget so I’ll just have to enjoy you and others making great music with it for the time being. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for listening, I've had pianoteq since version 6 but I think the new v 8 seemed very noticeably somehow richer. Lots of dramatic shifts are possible.

Somehow I missed your comment earlier. Thanks again. Yes, Ravel is up there in my pantheon of composers and musicians that I can never hope to approach. But a little pilfering can't be helped.

  • It’s amazing how many different ways people find to make music. I certainly can’t tell what is played, programmed, edited etc as it’s all so seamless. Excellent playing, programming, editing… 🙏

I greatly appreciate your listening and thinking about it! I like improvising but I also like (and need) midi sculpting. (e.g. your comment on the 'why make music' thread is also my view)
