Fugue This!
A few years ago, I bought into iSymphonic. I went all in. Oh well, live and learn. I decided to finally do something with it… anything. This is what I came up with. It’s only a minute and a half, so it won’t take up too much time.
I used FugueMachine and Piano Motifs to generate some patterns. Then I punched in a melody with the piano roll editor to give it a recurring theme, so it wouldn’t be entirely random.

Lots of fugue-ish turmoil ! and it sounds like there's a wind machine in there too
Sounds great! Are there issues with iSymphonic or did you just end up never really using it?
The wind machine is actually an effect called Other Desert Cities that I put on one of the tracks. I meant to cut it off at the end, but just said “Fugue It”. Thanks for listening.
I started out doing iPad music with an app called Notion. I never much cared for the sound library, so I tried iSymphonic. Their demos sounded great so I bought a bunch. I thought that the individual instruments didn’t sound as good as I had hoped. I found that they sounded okay when you used a lot of them together, but the end result sounded muddy. I’m not knocking the app, but it just didn’t give me what I was looking for, so I just started creating the nonsense that I’m doing now. I also found that the MIDI tracks didn’t freeze well in Cubasis. Julia Child would never approve of that! I picked up StaffPad on sale last year and I’m looking forward to trying that now that the weather is getting nice. I think I am at my best in shorts and a T-shirt on my back porch, with a cool, refreshing adult beverage. Thanks for listening. I hope to do better in the future. Have a great day!
Lol, wow. Very retro. Yes, ISymphonic sounds fell short. Though the soprano voice with strings I used a lot… without the strings. Check it out. It’s beautiful IMO. And a few string sections. Rarely use it now.
Thanks for that! I understand what you mean. I don’t have that app in particular but I feel the same about Heavy Brass. I don’t hate it and I use it some but it’s also not a favorite. I don’t know enough music theory to use StaffPad, so I’m looking into the SWAM stuff for the future.
Also an iPad on the porch is great! But I’m partial to spring and fall. I’m not built for the hot weather I suppose and it gets very hot and humid here.
Have a great day yourself 🤝
