What's the most realistic sounding Bass guitar on iOS?

Do exactly what you're doing, or record a real bass guitar.
I like this one too...

iFretless is the best I've heard, but I will definitely take a look at that iJ Bass app, too!
The next closest thing would probably be a good SoundFont through BS-16i or another velocity sensitive player. There are some good finger and pick bass samples that can do a passable job.
I'm a guitar player, but I do have a Squier P-bass. Didn't have any real use for it until iOS music, and now it's great to use it through the guitar apps and into a DAW. But there are times you need an app if you can't get all the equipment out.

I often think this, looking lovingly at her late in the evening...
Does iJ bass have midi out?
I like the two electric basses in Garageband. iFretless allows for more "authentic" articulation, though.
Yup. MIDI Out. Need to remember to set a non-zero pitchbend range to get any pitchbend messages. And also to set a real out channel. "Omni Out" is something that ought to be forbidden
I think @Fitz was referring to the iJ Bass app. The app description just mentions midi, but I don't see that it outputs midi. It does work with midi on the input though, but only when in the foreground. I don't see anywhere in the app to enable background audio. That's disappointing, because I do like the sounds. Still, it's fun to play.
I've used iJ Bass from within Jam Maestro. I don't remember if it was IAA or not. For some reason I preferred it over the JM bass options. It's been a while so I can't recall the details. I do remember that iJ Bass sounded good with the JM guitars.
I may pick up the iPad app because it's only 3.99, not a huge file and sounds okay. But it's a bit limited compared to iFretless, which itself has a Fender J-Bass and a sneaky amount of tweakability.
There is a separate iPhone version of iJ Bass ("SE") but it is less frequently updated and might not have MIDI. iFretless actually works quite well with MIDI because you can set different velocities and it ends up sounding surprisingly human (instead of just loud and quiet).
I did see that it now supports IAA midi and audio, which I wasn't aware that was added. I'll have to give that a go.
Thumbjam can be more expressive than ifrettless in a lot of circumstances for me. Use them both.

Hey there, only the most forward thinking apps support channel-per-touch (or strangely called omni out here) for both input and output, it's the wave of the future for both touch screens and powerful hardware controllers (haken continuum, Eigenharp, LinnStrument, QuNexus, etc) I'll just assume your smiley face was just you agreeing with me implicitly
Seriously, more apps and synths should start supporting channel-per-touch, or voice-per-channel on input as an option (like ThumbJam, PPG WaveGen/mapper, Arctic Pro do).
Chanel-per-touch is not the same thing as omni out. The former is a performance feature, where each note played gets its own channel. A reasonable solution. Omni out however says (to me) each note played is replicated out on all channels at once, i.e.16 times. I've seen it show up in synths with no possibility of a meaningful c-p-t interface. If iFJ means c-p-t then it should call that selection as such, not omni out.
Note: clearly it is not doing what I call "Omni out". But it is doing something else that is far worse. For a single note on - off brief tap on a string it sends a humungous number of pitch bends all to value 8192 (i.e. 0 bend). A completely useless waste of bandwidth and cpu cycles.
What's iFJ?...
@dwarman, yeah it looks like the Omni out channel choice in iFB actually does nothing at all, it just sends on whatever channel was last selected by the widget (defaulted to 1). Also agreed that their pitch bend send logic needs to avoid repeated identical messages, that should probably be reported to them. I'm not seeing a humongous number of 0 bends on note-on though, just one. I do see repeated ones later.
iFB does respond to incoming touch-per-channel output from other controllers correctly when set to Omni in, which is a good thing.
iFB has never done channel per touch properly on output. I tried to get Hans to take a look at it but he refused. Shame, since poly pitchbend PLUS accelerometer based velocity sensing doesn't exist in any iOS touchscreen controller that I know of. I also failed to get Rob Fielding to consider putting accelerometer based velocity sensing into Geo Synth. :P
