    hy guys,
iam using garageband so far, and iam missing few things:
    -automation for all parameters
    -free midi and audio routing
    -masterchannel with inserts
-midi/audio channel delay in both time directions.
    -real buses/sends with inserts
    -professional timestrech/ audio quantisation.
    -phase switch

    what daw would you recommend?

    Thanks!

I was intrigued by this list
In part because im seeing things that I now must have in a DAW...Once I knew what they are:

by "free midi and audio routing" do you mean between tracks?
and what is "midi and audio channel delay in both directions"?
    and what is "phase switch"
I guess everyone else knows what these are.
I don't mind being the slow horse.
    Thanks!

    to simply answer your questions:
like it is with win/osx Daw's

  • can someone who uses cubasis and loopy pro make a pro/con statement?

That's too vague a question. Loopy Pro and Cubasis have very different focuses. Pro/Con depends on what you want to do. They are two very different animals, though with some feature overlap.

Cubasis is the more full featured traditional style DAW.
Loopy is an amazing live looper with some linear DAW features and too many other features to list.

I will say that I personally haven't touched Cubasis since Loopy Pro came along, but that's based how it suits my own music making approach.

midi/audio routing options are Nr. 1

In terms of midi/audio routing NS2 has far away best posibilities from all current DAW on iOS - but with one small caveat when it comes to midi...

    it has:

    • unlimited number of sends per track (basically one track can be sent to any number of other tracks
    • unlimited number and most importantly unlimited LEVEL of grouping (you can group tracks, then you can group such groups, then you can group such grouped groups, etc .. you know where it goes ..

both for midi and audio (track in NS2 processes both midi and audio, where both audio and midi can be also routed from child to parent track - for audio this is enabled automatically, for midi you can enable it manually)

    caveat:

    • for midi routing it removes information about midi channel from midi data .. as soon as audio passes from one track to other track, it doesn't hold information about midi channel anymore, it is set to 1

Also if long audio tracks on sequencer timeline are your priority then NS2 is not solution for you cause it doesn't have audio tracks, you can just sample audio into build in sampler and play it by note in sequencer

and last thing important to mention - if you want automate AUv3 effects, this doesn't work in NS2, just build in FXs can be automated (they are great quality though, easily replace most of auv3 effects like filters, eq, reverb, delay, ovedrive/distortion, limiter, compressor including sidechain etc) - of course if you have your favourite AUv3, you can use them, but you can't automate them.

Loopy Pro clearly wins as far as midi and audio routing options, if that's your primary requirement. But keep in mind that it has no native midi recording or playback at this time. It also doesn't have native midi and parameter automation. Third party plugins are needed for that.

Cubasis has midi recording, editing, and automation. It's just not as flexible for midi and audio routing.

If midi and audio routing is your priority, AUM is the king.
