Different Drummer demo video

I don't have anything on Doug, but I hope people find this useful.

  • Nice one Russell, downloading now and look forward to watching it later.

  • Hey Mister. Very grateful that you took a run at this, I have picked up and put down DD a number of times, but can tell from the detail of your first five minutes that I am going to get a lot of insight. School night over here, but looking forward to taking it offline tomorrow and doing my own kind of study :)

  • Great video, always better to have someone who knows the app well to demo it, I picked up a lot of useful info here, thanks Russ

  • Nice one Russ! Doug makes hundreds of videos a year which means that he can't possibly cover all of the features especially with apps deep as this one. It has always been apparent on this forum that you liked DD very much so it is good to see it from your perspective. Thanks.

  • Great video! Plus one to @supadoms thoughts.

  • Very useful. Looking forward this app. Thanks!

  • If anyone gets the app, Russ has a ton of his presets and creations available from right in the app and they are a great place to start. I will say this though that sometimes people say they dont like DD so much because it difficult to get a straightforward rhythm going. If that what you want then use DM1 or one of the stack of other standard sequencers. I find that the best part of DD is the unpredictability of what it produces

  • Great video Russell. A very articulate & comprehensive look at all the features.

  • Tasty grooves@Flo26! It makes me wanna get this app

  • I see on AppZapp that the price has been falling gradually. Not that I think the app is not worth it it's just I already spent my monthly allowance on stroke machine. Wish I had bought this instead to be honest.

  • @funjunkie27 hey Russ your video just got posted on http://discchord.com

  • Just watched this, great vid! Learned a lot from it!

Thanks for all the kind words to all! The hardest part of this was determining the AV setup, and in the end I took the simple route with a Vado on a tripod. Sadly, it shows, but I think/hope it still got the idea across.

Loved the grooves Flo! You should share those on the community!

I did omit a few things, used the wrong terminology in spots, and did a brain fart on the part where I expected the sliders to move (it was the CPM dial that changes.). The main omissions were to say that.v3.0 adds state saving, which is a great plus. I also forgot to show how notes could be manually added, deleted, or changed in pitch. The other omission was showing that you can move the waveform by swiping it in the control view, rather than having to use the sliders.

  • Thanks for letting me know Doug. Kewl!

  • Thanks very much Russ...really kind of you to take the time to do this! Thanks Flo for the groove post too...love my "customers!"

  • Glad to do it Peter! I learned a few more tricks in DD, so it was worth it to me for that alone.

  • Thanks Russ for the superb resource! And thanks @technemedia for a great app!

  • Happy to help the community!

  • Just to add that v3 isn't out yet, in case that was causing any confusion.

  • Is v3 going to be an entirely new app (and thus a new purchase) ?

  • I'll defer to the dev, but I don't think that will be the case.

  • Thanks, I'm thinking of getting DD but if the new version would be a new purchase I'd wait for that...

  • Sure....I imagine it will drop this week.

  • No worries here Flo. My intent was to show what it is capable of and how to navigate the app. I've already been considering how to show the composition side next, although I need to make some time for that.

  • thanks guys, I will probably get it tomorrow anyway (sleepy-time now...) intrigueing app...thanks for the video too!

You know we're going to nag you for that one now Mister Junkie....

  • Well I've finally purchased, thanks in no small part to funjunkie's vid but mostly because Flo's Soundcloud content over many months has featured DD so heavily and impressively. There's no way I'm ever going to be as good as he on guitar but maybe I can get the hang of DD.

@Flo26: Would you consider uploading a wave set or two to the DD Community so we can study and learn? :)

  • Lol...yes, I'm as prepared as I can be for that @JohnnyGoodyear.

  • Sorry Flo, I wasn't looking properly. I can now see two of yours (U Pop and Cuba). Many thanks :)

  • Thanks for this video, ive taken some time to learn DD and I still learned alot from your video. Diffrent Drummer is one of the most versatile and improved upon app in my arsenal. For what its worth, i liked that distortion on the wave ;)
