Will Native Instruments port their Kontakt Samplerto iPadOS now that Logic Pro is here?

I don't see why it would be so hard. Sampletank was ported over. Imagine all they'd have to do is code a "kontakt" version for apple silicon natively, and then it could use the same exact sample libraries people already purchased. I think alot of people would buy it just to use their sample libraries from desktop on there too.

  • very much doubt it.

Who knows in the future, but they already abandoned their iOS apps…presumably because they didn’t generate profit.

SampleTank has essentially been abandoned. Will Logic Pro result in enough new serious music producers on iOS to justify development for ios? Tine will tell.

  • Wow..I count 11 threads with Logic in the subject, I can’t take no more.

  • If the ipad could load NI Kontakt and Reaktor instances and be integrated with a version of 'iMaschine', then the main problem with the M+ of being low CPU would be overcome.

They would sell a lot more versions of hardware that way.

  • Seems unlikely due to the enormous sample libraries. A really good match would be Spitfire Labs.

Soundpaint could possibly be ported. The interface should work well on a touchscreen and the libraries aren't as huge as some of the Kontakt / Spitfire Lab ones.

  • Don’t even need it if Samoletank goes auv3

I never got into Sampletank. Does it sound that good?

It is nearly dead so you can forget about it

Oh yeah I’m aware, I just didn’t realize it was on that Kontakt level (at least that’s what they seemed to be implying).

  • It’ll probably be back. It’s IAA only and sounds fantastic

  • no, they won‘t

  • You never know Perhaps Dave Tremblay has been negotiating with larger players like NI since he started in Sept 2022.

Conceivably we could see a Kontakt Player 7 port. Which is also free on desktop

Ironically, a ported Kontakt Player would exclude most free and some commercial libraries - as far as I remember, NI still wants extra cash for creating Player library licenses.

  • I’d love to see the spitfire audio labs as an auv3. That would be absolutely amazing. Hard to see Kontakt due ot the massive size of their libraries. Of course now that they’ve merged with Izotope? Love to have some of their plugins onboard.

yes, and possibly they could continue offering this license arrangement on iPadOS

now that is an excellent idea! However like you said the huge size of a collection of sample libraries doesn't fit so well with iOS devices currently.
