AUM can see different USB audio devices but can't switch between them?

I've got a USB audio interface and a Dreadbox Typhon (which supports USB audio out) hooked up to my IPad via usb. If I plug in the Typhon after the Audio interface, AUM will only see the inputs from the Typhon.

However there is a settings menu in AUM where I can actually see both usb devices and the internal ipad microphone as inputs. But I can only switch between whichever usb device was plugged in last and the internal mic, but not between the two devices.

Is this normal or is there a way to get it to switch without re-plugging things? AUM is already the only app that seems at all aware of multiple USB devices so maybe it's asking a lot ;)

  • This is one 'thing' that is supposed to get fixed with iPadOS17 when it ships later on this year.
Currently iOS uses the device that us plugged in last so it's cable-swapping deluxe for now...

IOS only allows one audio input device and output device and automatically assigns the last device plugged in to be the input and/or output device. Apps and users cannot override it.

  • I’ll bet Logic Pro (being Pro and all) will sort this mess out pronto. Should we create a new thread to make sure it does?

And that LP conflict should be written into the New New Rules post. Everyone needs to spell out Logic Pro for IOS every time and show @Micheal the respect he deserves for platform dedication. I hope LP works in LP4I.

  • Apple could propably 'sneak in' some audio related things into the upcoming 16.5 release which should drop next week...
...giving users time to update before the 23rd :sunglasses:

  • Hopefully yeah, clearly a) ipados does recognise multiple devices simultaneously and b) is able to switch audio devices dynamically already (between internal and external input) so its a fairly arbitrary limitation

  • I just found out today that aum can’t do this as mentioned above lol came here hoping for a solution.

Logic Pro is the solution for now. It let me select my audio interface as input and sp404 mk2 as the output.

Hopefully aum will find a way to allow this

I'd be afraid it's a private API, meaning only Apple code is allowed to access it. The App Store is pretty strict on this.

Apple has not provided a way for developers to do this yet, unfortunately.

  • Well dang it! Who do we need to write to let them know we need this!
