Audiobus FTW
I was an early Audiobus adopter, and used it extensively with the original NanoStudio, but since Auv3, my interest in the app waned. That said, I come to the Audiobus forum every day just to get the pulse of what's happening in the iOS music community. This forum has gotten so much bigger than the app that created it.
But today, my Korg NTS-1 arrived and I put it together after fumbling around with all the tiny screws. (For anyone looking for a deal on one, it's $95 on Amazon right now). It sounds amazing. The effects are really the star of the show, but combined with the synth engine, it can really sing.
But....that ribbon keyboard. I was desperate to hook it up to a MIDI controller. Alas, all my TRS midi cables were TRS-B. No dice with the NTS-1. I have a $5 TRS-A coming from Sweetwater later this week, but I want to play the NTS-1 now, not Wednesday.
So I try to see how I can use BLE MIDI with the NTS-1 hooked up to my iPad via the USB-C port. Tried KB-1. I can play the virtual keyboard and get sound from the NTS-1. Yay! But apparently it won't accept MIDI input from my bluetooth keyboard. Ugh.
I was about to create a post here asking if there was any app that would let me select the bluetooth keyboard as a source and send MIDI to the NTS-1 as a destination. And then I saw it. Audiobus 3! (does that count as irony?) Had I purchased it? I had! It was right there in my music tools folder, and in 20 seconds I was letting my fingers fly over the bluetooth keyboard and hearing all sorts of synthy goodness from the NTS-1.
Audiobus 3, you saved my weekend!

AUM is generally the default these days but Audiobus was a lifesaver and genuine game changer for its time. But after using AUM it’s hard to go back to different pages for midi and audio and mixing AND only one effect per channel. But can still be a great tool! Glad you figured it out.
Also you should check out VividTracker on iOS. You can make chiptunes and then load them into the NTS1 as wavetables!
You can put multiple 3ffect per channels in Audiobus.
I'm going to check VividTracker soon. That sounds fun!
Wow I never realized this. I was mostly in GB, Gadget, and Cubasis before AUM came out so I never dove in enough. How do you do multiple effects in A3?
Agreed! Makes me wish I still had mine or the Minilogue XD. Kinda thinking of buying another one. Though I think I prefer the OG Minilogue.
Oh wow, that gui though! 😂 Think I'll stick with Gadget for fakebit fodder. 🤣
Haha 😂 I’m not sure if that app has any connectivity anyways. I have a couple of AU tools (and lots of others) for that kind of sound so I think I’m covered as well. Also have Gadget but I never bought the Sega IAP. Have the rest though. You tried it?
The Sega IAP? Well yeah. 🤣 I have all of Gadget's IAPs, all external apps, and all of their IAPs. Sure costed me enough. 😂
Wasn’t aware you could add multiple effects but I’m not sure how all of it is untrue. I’m looking around the app and I only see the option to add one effect send per lane. I guess I’m missing something? Seems like the majority on here gravitate to AUM, unless it’s just a vocal minority using it and everyone else is with Audiobus. I mostly went from GB, Cubasis, and Gadget to briefly using Audiobus 3 and then right to AUM so I didn’t explore every single feature.
Never used Audiobus remote but I’m guessing that’s how you manage to get everything onto one screen and use multiple effects?
I’m still working on getting into LP. It’s very powerful but there’s a definite learning curve.
I’m sure it did 😂 how is it though? I’ve bought the majority of Gadget IAPs because I REALLY was into it for a couple years or so. But never bought any inside Module. I’ve demoed some and they’re all really good. Im actually demoing the organ IAP now to try and stop myself from getting the GSI apps but it’s not working 🤣
Hmm don’t see how it was ridiculous whatsoever but fair enough I guess lol 👍🏻
