No 6/8's in Lumbeat?
A bit disappointing, had my first call for a 6/8 slow rock beat song and discovered that there are none in the Lumbeat apps! well, at least none I could find or even modify!
Even a 12/8 would have done. None of them either. In the "traditional" bluesy style triplet in four feel.
Comments
India and Mideast drummers have some.
Reggae has 12/8 , 3/4 , 6/4
Funk has "ternary" - mostly 12/8
Soft has 9,12,18,24 /8
What BPM do you need? I can check out some Session Band drummers ( you can mute bass, guitar and solos). I’d check Blues, Rock, Drums and Soul/Funk.
These drummers are studio players recorded but they can vary BPM with a pitch shift as I recall. They are often on sale too but I could demo a track to your specs to see if it’s a fit.
Session Band Blues has some good options: slow 12/8, slow shuffle, 6/4 like John Nayer’s Gravity. Costs $8.99. You can also get great basslines and rhythm section players appropriate the the selected style/genre and put in your own chord progression for a complete song.
I have 12/8 beats in Rock Drummer (essentially the same as 6/8), have a look in the Shuffle Bank.
Agree- sessionband recordings are great quality, the arranger is a bit fiddly though. Sessionband loop packs on sale now, (https://www.sessionbandloops.com/) probably I’d go for the loop packs if starting from scratch with hindsight, and assemble tracks in loopy/cubasis/auria/whatever
Better searchability, ease of arrangement, more immediate options for fx and automation… can’t tell what sample rate they are recorded at from the online blurb tho
Does John or Mike or whoever was the progressive metal addon for $5 have it? I would assume.
Thanks folks - Indian and Mideast are not really suitable for slow rock/blues tbh haha!
I did have a cursory look through rock drummer, and indeed the shuffle bank....might have to play EVERY beat in there
Not heard of Session Band ( I have xMure but it only had two 6/8s neither was perfectly suitable - and no tweaking in the app) I will have a look at Session Band though thanks.
EDIT: Session band is only for mac/pc this is for iOS only. Looks cool though
SoftDrummer, Jazz Drummer and Funk Drummer each have ternary rhythms,
Funk Drummer ternarys are too, well, funky. I want a true rock/blues slow triplet feel 6/8 - Soft Drummer Ternarys are nothing like it. Thanks for the suggestion though
Not true. Look in the App Store… iPad and iPhone:
The Steve Gadd app has some great 6/8 loops, even in the free version. Could be exactly what you’re looking for.
oh cool, thanks! I just went to the website and it onyl listed PC/Mac...
I'll check it. thanks
It seems typical for software vendors to sell the Mac and Windows product on their website but also show an
Apple Store logo too. I always start looking for apps in the App Store if I have a product name or the developers business name.
I hope you find what you need to do the work.
XMURE , I would recommend, the developer even listens to songs suggestions (example gravity)
okay, found it and tried the SessionBand Original...pretty much the same as Band In a Box really...could be useful.
The downside is that in my experience the same loops are used every time. i. Session band.
The sound quality of the Original version is probably pretty cheesy. They built their business and their software technology one app at a time.
Session Band products have improved dramatically in sound and technology over the life of the series. The most recent products are the best sounding. But since you’re seeking a specific musical genre: traditional blues 12/8/triplet I think the
“SessionBand Blues I” might be the closest to the mark.
Lumbeats drummers do have more controls for fills and variations but this slow shuffle request is not well served. I’d imagine
Luis Martinez could rectify this by making a “Blues Drummer” for $18 and I would probably buy it to complete my set.
Regarding the “money pit” called “Band in a Box”, I have no idea why they have not ported to IOS. I was a BIAB customer back when it was just a MIDI output product similar to the “arranger keyboards” of the 90’s. I let my investment in BIAB lapse and didn’t;t buyt the required upgrades to be able to use it on my Mac or Windows computers. When they intergrated “Live Recordings” of studio musicians it got to be really good for creating demo studio tracks for singer/songwriters. But it’s the pinnacle of “nickel and dime” users until they scream. Of course, someone doing solo bar gigs can really spruce up their act with these types of “side musicians”.
Of course, GarageBand connectivity sucks, so it might not be a good choice for the more live scenario of the OP. But I tried some projects at 6/8 with the Drummer in GarageBand.
It works really, really well. I mean seriously good with all the drummers and patterns I tried.
Good call. Free is a nice attribute for contract work to lower costs.
yeah I agree with McD - good call. I would NEVER have given GB a thought until you mentioned it!
