Au vst on Ios
Sorry for what I feel is a really dumb question.. but are you able to use third party instrument software that is available as Audio Units on iOS?
I’m trying to get hold of a suona (Chinese instrument) and was scouring the net for any soundfonts etc. Cant find anything so I started looking into whether Logic Pro ios might support vsts or they might allow ios to. While doing this I found various suona software that is available as vst 2 and Audio Units (i haven’t used desktop for years so forgot audio unit is an alternative to vst as a format).
So then I was thinking… can’t I just download these and use the the, as au in ios? I’m guessing not - maybe (AU isn’t a file type but something else and maybe it requires certain software to run those software available as (AU for Mac and windows.
Thanks for anyone in helping me understand

wingwizard:
on iOS you have a special kind of au plugin, AUv3.
on osx you have au(v2-v1)
so you cant.
Thank you That explains it.
yes, it's a pain, something I hoped would be available using logic pro for Ipad
I use emvoice for vocals which is a VST, so I end out pushing the instrumentals from Garageband IOS out as a WAV file into a shared folder, then using a PC running cakewalk (free), to load the vocals on, and then export the vocals back as WAVs and import them into GB IOS. It's very back and forward as the vocal takes will sound different with GB processing.
still it does the job
Warch this video, here is explained everything you need to know about iOS music apps ecosystem including plugins.
Really great video for people new in this segment, especially those motivated by Logic for iPad to test these waters.
