miRack put eurorack inside my iPad.

Drambo turned it into a DIY Elektron groovebox.

Atom2 turned AUM into a dawless modular sequencing playground.

ButterSynth made synth programming fun again.

And Bram is still Bos'ing it with all his apps.

There were plenty of other notable apps (e.g. Pure Acid, Koala) but the ones above made the biggest impact for me over the past 3 years in iOS music.

  • Drambo and Loopy Pro.

    Most apps by AudioKit Pro.

    Some find them nice, sure.
But they are not essential or groundbreaking in any way.

Everything, lol. Jk. There’s way too many to name. I’d definitely recommend a few things to see what’s out there. #5 might be one of the easiest options, although it doesn’t catch everything.

    1. Audiobus compatible apps page - at the top, pretty comprehensive list of AU’s and can sort
    2. App Sore Top 200 paid & free music apps
    3. YouTube content creators channels who do a great job of covering the majority of releases, so you can go back and see all the videos they have done on each app. There’s a bunch of great content creators for iOS music but just to name a few good places to start @Gavinski has Gavinski’s Tutorials, @thesoundtestroom by same name, @Jadestar by same name, @TheGarageBandGuide same name @jakoB_haQ same name @Jamie_Mallender same name and several other good ones.
    4. Appsliced.com new release page - this one has changed recently, it previously went back very far, but now only goes back a page or 2, so try this one instead…
    5. Synthyfrog - Sorted by new releases, the site currently has 1,247 new releases listed, but doesn’t have every single one.

  • Thanks a lot everybody for all your help. :D

Endlesss, free on iOS and desktop. Not only great fun but super useful.

The Terms and Conditions are disconcerting.

There’s more detail on their website. For just a bit of fun, it might be fine, but it sounds sketchy to me. Looks like anything created with their app cannot be protected by exclusive copyright ownership of the person doing the creating. Remixing their beats… that’s understandable. Them being able to distribute whatever you create to third paties… each should decide for themselves on that front.

This is simply there for when you are in a jam with multiple people. I do private jams by myself.

I'd appreciate any advice that you want to give. Not that I am looking to spend all my money, but I want to know what the really good stuff is, so I can begin checking out the videos.

Wow - a lot has happened in 6 years.

Your best bet is to have a wander through The Sound Test Room videos on YouTube. Doug has covered every good release while you have been away.

  • I forgot @jakoB_haQ has a YouTube video that shows iOS music progression/development over the years. It’s maybe a year old, but hits the big changes.

  • I’ve been a big fan of Doug and Jacob for a long time. Believe me, I have been watching their videos a lot over the last week or two and will continue to. :)
