Don't know about your free choice but am very happy for years now with this payed one: Little Snitch
I am in no way affiliated, just posting from what i got very stable results over years.
Just expanded this (also years back) with a PiHole for my entire network (That is a Raspberry Pi running an AdBlocker kind of thing).
Like @MrBlaschke I also can recommend Little Snitch. It's THE app for monitoring and controlling the connectivity behaviour of MacOS.
Yep, Little Snitch has no equal.
