Vi! I haven’t checked her channel in years. So cool to see she’s doing new videos.

Nahre Sol. Mostly a classical pianist, in last few years she's been investigating other genres, doing more with synthesizers and on computer with DAWS. She's kind of loosely affiliated with other good youtube musicians like Adam Neely or Andrew Huang, both of whom should also be listed here.

She’s made a very cool pivot into educating others and showing the “hidden knowledge” of the modern classical music industry - stuff she knows extremely well

Alex Ball, who really should have his own show or be making movie documentaries about synthesizers:

    https://www.youtube.com/@AlexBallMusic

Absolutely. He makes top tier content.

You know what, I’ll say it.. he’s definitely in hero territory for me, such passion, a real talent for making music. Perfect balance of geek knowledge, song writing and sound design all wrapped up in this self deprecating front. One of the few subs where i look forward to every new video he makes.

Agreed he’s fantastic. His actual music is very good too.

Jacob Collier. Get some new inspiration from the ways he explores harmony, melody and composition.
Don't miss his live vocal recording showcase using desktop Logic Pro X. Watch the magic of keyboard shortcuts! (starting at 3:48 in time)

  • I recently came across Songs By Spencer, https://youtube.com/@songsbyspencer

I’ve enjoyed all the videos of his I’ve watched so far, one good example:

Collier’s musicianship is undeniable, but has he ever composed a popular piece of music not based on someone else’s already known work? His stuff relies on familiarity with popular works and he tends to add on to these original works until they are musical gilded lilies.

I'm going to quote myself to provide the answer to my own question. Yes, Collier is doing some wildly inventive new stuff on his latest album. Not much based on prior works and he's even delving into rock and metal now. It's really something.

  • I've been trying to eliminate my addiction to any app with an endless scrolling or swiping interface. (This forum does not count, because the scroll ends once you're caught up.) These are designed to be addictive, and I am very susceptible. I've never had any big problems with addictions of the flesh, but man does twitter have my brain in a vice.

Cold turkey is the only thing that works for me. And keeping Youtube as my one addictive app indulgence.

And now you forkers have gone and given me all these tasters. I'll never get anything done again.

“Captain Pikant is here to teach you about drum machines, rhythm and lots of other stuff that goes ‘beep’. There is also an inexplicably large amount of stop motion.”
