Almost certainly a bad idea, releasing a track on Logic Day…Still: 4 Flies On Grey Velvet
"I think someone is trying to drive you crazy before finally killing you." - Dialogue, ‘Four Flies on Grey Velvet.’
Couldn’t help myself despite the utter stupidity of trying to claim eyeballs on this Day of Days, but hey, whaddyagonnado?
Got inspired by making some timpani-ish noises in Hilda, and added actual timpanis from BeatHawk, and found I’d accidentally made something which could do for a mid 70s Giallo slasher.
So I upped the hubris, and went after Four Flies On Grey Velvet, an early stylish, bonkers slash fest of a movie by horror maestro Dario Argento, with an actual proper soundtrack by one E. Morricone, whoever he is. This is my own take, bears no feasible relationship to the real thing whatsoever.
Hilda weirds out, Saga distorts nicely, Rozeta Rhythm drives Drum 80, a free running BeatHawk Orchestral timp loop timps. Four instances of midiDreams sequencer drive Speldosa, King of FM, Free Vibes, and Sopranotron does sighs. Other Desert Cities on Tape and Reverse fx. Cascade and Alteza on everything. I rode the faders in AUM live to make the mix to AudioShare.
Set the bar high enough, I say, and I might, with application, practice and few more decades, manage to limbo under it. Enjoy!

Very nice. All seems about Logic ios coming but at the end all is about music we make and could release with joy. A tool is a tool.
Hope more people we enjoy the creation category at least to heard little gem as this one
Majestic and quite meditative!
I am enjoying the serenity of this sounds, like a call for gathering.
Another beauty!
Well, Svetlovska!
When I saw your post earlier I must admit to being reticent in my desire to listen.
Argento & maestro Morricone are two of my greatest passions and obsessions; I particularly adore this film & its soundtrack.
Needless to say I loved this, gorgeous work.
@BerlinFx @ReneAsologuitar : thanks both for your attention and kind comments at this… difficult time!
@Sons_Cartouches : thank you so much! That means a lot, coming from a fellow fan of both the movie and the soundtrack. On reflection I think my noise ended up a little closer to the rototom barrage of Goblin’s awesome soundtrack for Suspiria rather than Morricone’s for this, and I’m just not skilled enough to emulate the lyricism of his final scene piece ‘Come Un Madrigale’, but to be mentioned in the same sentence is reward enough.
Note: no DAWs were harmed in the making of my piece. Logic Pro? We don’t need no stinking Logic Pro!
Very good, I prefer it to a lot of Giallo music! Very glad to see people sticking to their Dawless guns!
Very nice!
But you aren't fooling anybody. We all know Logic Pro is the only software that you can create good music like this with.
When the herd is threatening to stampede the entire forum into a pit of corporate shenanigans it is a blessing to experience this post. Your stand against the corporate takeover that is being sold as a saviour to our creative shortcomings is appreciated and supported.
Thank you for a lovely piece, I'm glad I stopped by here today.
Beautiful! Less daws, more music
Very nice, especially Hilda weirding out (I used to think weirding out means being unpleasantly creepy, funny how assumptions work). It makes me want to watch more old horror movies, I did that a lot, when I was younger.
Lovely work. As my woodcarving tutor used to say… it’s not the tool, it’s what you do with it. Nice bit of sonic carving !
