The UI isn’t a deal breaker but I’m find myself scrolling and scrolling to make edits on most of the synths.
Logics synths and effects are really mediocre at best compared to what can be purchased now.
The file system is an absolute joke.
    Simple edits are not simple.

You have probably same weak iPad as everyone else here getting crashes - on my iPad Pro 12.9” M1 it’s super stable after ten hours of usage…

I haven’t any problem with the UI in Logic, it’s pretty smart built and fluid…

Logics synths and effects mediocre??? You really can’t say that about the giant Alchemy Synth and a few other stock plugins…

So, nothing is stopping you use this product, it’s a free world, but, we are a lot of people out in the world that will use Logic for iPad and make great music…

Same ipad as you... Not a single crash yet after many hours of use

I would estimate I’ve had crashes roughly 30% of the time so far. Maybe this is one for the M1/M2 crowd.

Im on the 2020 IPad Pro, I’ve had one crash when I first used it, I might have been downloading sound packs but I restarted my IPad and haven’t had a single crash or issue since. I’ve had issues with other apps over the years that worked fine for others. The first 20 mins felt a little foreign but the more I figured things out the more comfortable I got. I’ve been using Logic Pro on Macs for a decade so a lot was familiar but there’s definitely things that are different

  • Early days, some good some not so good;I’ll revisit it in a year.

Personally I’m going to subscribe for a year after the trail is done and see how much I find myself using it during that time. I’ve moved away from IPad Daws over the last year or so because they all lacked what I really needed to work the way I like to work in one way or another. I’m sure Logic Pro for the IPad is lacking something for others but so far for me personally it has what the others were lacking for my workflow. I’m not saying its better than all the others but it fits me better than all the others. And It’s been stable so far.

No crashes here so far (running it on a simple iPad 8, the lowest configuration possible). It truly doesn't feel like a "crippled" or "stripped down" version of Logic to me.

It's absolutely mesmerising how much functionality and flexibility they have managed to get into an app that runs on a small-ish screen and is usable with big fat fingers.

I’m on an M1 12.9 and no crashes yet. I think the the ‘stripped down’ quality comes down to the lack of available editable parameters in the synths and samplers compared to the desktop version. It’s weird opening up Twin 3 or your killer Hilda and being able to get down and dirty but not be able to do the same in Sculpture. But I get it, it’s designed for touch. It seems very capable but I still wouldn’t use it to record a four piece band. That’s a job for the laptop.

Edit: Never mind. I just figured out how to access the editable parameters in the synths. I stand corrected.

I agree heavy recording like recording a band in a studio session is a task for Laptops, same if a pro perform in public he would use MacBook as main and can use as adding or some surface control or MPE an IPad Pro M1.

And of course using MacBook with a solid OS. Some even use 2 Laptops as if one have a problem the second will back up.

The only crash I’ve had, which is reproducible, is if I reduce the length of a pattern region that contains data in the steps after the new max length. For example if I have a region 32 steps long and I have data in the 17th step and reduce the region to 16 steps it crashes.

I have an iPad Air 4 with the latest OS — 256GB.

Alchemy synth is cool; no crashes there yet.

Couldn't agree more. It is LOGIC on the iPad. It's the Goldilocks/Buddha middle-tier option; neither as powerful/flexible as Logic PRO, nor as feature-stripped as Garageband. If only they'd pitched it as such, there'd be no need for any disappointment that what they have released, while potentially very good (and likely to improve a lot), is definitely not Logic Pro.

Like you, I've been a Logic user for a very long time. i've seen huge, exponential development and countless improvements. I expect no less from them, in this case. I just don't think they're ever going to be able to achieve close to 1:1 function-parity, even if they wanted to (I doubt they do), and therefore will always be different (Not just aesthetically, either).

Medium-Bear's bowl of porridge, while being both satisfying in its own right, and certainly much bigger than Little-Bear's bowl, will never be the same size as Big-Bear's bowl.

  • Forget that the title is a little sensational, it reads a lot like “Hammers aren’t for me! I prefer a crowbar!” At the end of the day they’re just tools, but while it’s possible to potentially eventually drive a nail with a crowbar, the hammer will probably do it faster.

Back to it…it’s a massive amount of features that was added in a short time, and Apple definitely came swinging. But it’s also a difficult line to balance between the GarageBand, Logic, pro, and general consumer audience.

I think they did exactly what they needed to do. Actually, I’d say they knocked it out of the park for a first launch. It’s more along the line of the catalyst we needed for greater things to come to iPad OS, than the magical all-in-one, larger than life solution that I’ve been worried that people would see.

So, is it a game changier? Idk…I’d still say not yet. But it came swinging hard, and will open up a lot more doors that weren’t even feasible. It opens up more users to iOS, and creates a new market for so much more developers.

Only time will tell. But for now, I’m having a blast.

Citation: “ it’s a massive amount of features that was added in a short time”

    How can you claim this?
Hard to believe that Apple is communicating this sort of thing from the bubble all developer working in…
Apple could have been developing this since years back, who knows…

I agree. It is a very impressive app and will be the perfect mix of features for many people but for those of us where the day one available features don’t match our most productive workflow in whatever app(s) we use today then we just wait and hope it catches up eventually. For example, I needed the scoring feature from the desktop as that’s how I write most of my music but alas it did not make the cut. I also need to export MIDI for rendering in StaffPad. If/when both of those are there then I will certainly give Logic another try. No hard feelings towards Apple, no complaining, it’s just a business transaction that is put on hold for now.

It turned out to be something of a blessing for me that the app was not a one-off purchase as the subscription model means that people can jump in when the feature(s) they are looking for have been added.

Loppy pro does all these and more!, it’s also far more flexible even If it has less functionality it’s also lots more innovative. So me too I’ll stick to Loopy pro too.
But don’t get me wrong Logic is a killer app it’s just not adapted to my workflow

That’s all fine. No need to switch. It’s not obligatory.

But Logic does most certainly have a non linear song structure mode with the ableton live style Live Loops.

As with Live (and Loopy pro) you can record the output of Live Loops jams into the linear arrange mode.

Loopy Pro is obviously excellent, if it fits your needs why go searching for greener grass?

Also you can also obviously host Loopy Pro inside Logic for the best of both worlds too.

  • I'm doing the trial so far and my view is "Thanks! I hate it."

I own and don't ever use Logic on the Mac, so it really isn't surprising! Logic on iOS feels just as clunky and unusable and overly stimulating as it does on mac, coupled with even poorer (is that even correct grammer?) workflow decisions.

I hope it will entice more plug-in vendors and 3rd parties to port to iOS, so I hope it is wildly successful.

  • So far the workflow is reminding me of Zenbeats, with the combo of long presses, double taps, and menu diving…though I suppose the more features you have in a DAW, the more this sort of thing becomes necessary.

The workaround is to use inside Logic the search bar when it is possible. In the future I can see a AI tool helping or use if Siri commands.

But actually more you have option more you need to have hidden me y it is not only for Daw but for any type of big softwares.

So it is really a great work from Apple dev team . As past dev I know that it was a big challenge. It is easy to say it is bad but which dev is able to do better ?

Definitely. I’m not trying to say it’s bad, I don’t find Zenbeats to be bad either, just not as quick as Cubasis. But again, Logic is a much bigger program.

Cubasis nearly a one page Daw but not so deep compare to Logic IPad. I was stating before the release of LP iOS that the learning curve I’d deeper than many people think, now you understand why I said that .

For real. It's funny to read opinions on this forum that when Logic will come to ipad it will be the end of the world and in reality it's just... meh

LOL! What's even more funny is how long a lot of us wished for Logic Pro (or any "fully featured DAW") to be ported to iPad. We finally got what we wished for, and now a lot of us complained about what Logic Pro didn't have (myself included who had hoped Flex Pitch would be included, but at least we have @dwrae 's excellent Vocal Tune Studio with which to tune vocals) and complained about subscription (of which I didn't complain since I...).

...predicted it would be subscription. That said I had no idea it would be $4.99/month instead of $9.99/month (a bargain in my opinion) and would replace my soon-to-be-expired Auxy Studio subscription (a worthless subscription at this point since Auxy Studio only gets maintenance updates and no new content updates anymore). Oh but how folks complained.

Again, we finally got what we wished for, and we complained "not good enough". 🤣 Myself included. But now that the dust has settled, I like Logic Pro for what it is, with the hopes Flex Pitch will be added sometime in the future. Logic Pro won't replace AUM since I love doing my live jams in AUM. :)
