1step forward 2 steps back?
Is the latest AB sdk taking away functionality of some apps?
Just updated Galileo to version 2.
Doesn't seem to behave as an IAA instrument anymore..
(Was an instrument in version 1.1)
I think it has now become an IAA generator.
Jesse mentioned something about this in another post earlier this week when discussing the Thor update.
Do apps that were previously IAA instruments lose this functionality when updated with the latest AB sdk?
Comments
I thought when an app was an IAA Generator, that meant that it had all the functionality of an IAA Instrument, but that MIDI data would also send from the Generator app?
Generators only do audio.
Instruments do midi and audio.
If the sdk switches all instruments to generators then things like the freeze function in cubasis become redundant.
I think that comment said that apps become IAA generators automatically via the SDK, but that doesn't mean that they still can't be coded to be an instrument.
Interested to hear the low down from the AB team and any other devs though....
It is still an instrument and a generator for me, and according to the update decription also an IAA effect now. What app did you test it in?
Interesting. Both Thor and Galileo work very well in BM2 IAA, sending both Audio and virtual midi. I wonder what the difference is?
Then there's hope:)
Have only tried it in cubasis.
Will do a fresh install and see if it works as before.
Not on a first try but I got it working as an instrument in Cubasis now too.
Yes VM still works fine.its the IAA midi
(Instrument) that seems to have gone for a burton.
The AB2.1 SDK does not limit an app from supporting all the kinds of IAA plugins, but there may be some misunderstandings from devs about what they still need to do themselves. Odd that Galileo lost something... an app can very easily be both a generator and an instrument.
@DarbyA, BM2 is just being smart about using generators in combination with virtual midi. IAA instruments are a more precise way to feed plugins midi because it is truly sample accurate, so when available or appropriate apps should always expose and use them.

....and Jesse.
Thanks
Thanks for the explanation @sonosaurus, reading up on this
Just to be clear, if you are using an app via Audiobus, it will not be using the other app in the chain as an IAA instrument, because AB doesn't do MIDI. So only a host's native use of IAA on a track will actually invoke the perfect sample-accurate interface. No big deal, virtual midi is usually good enough and what you are used to anyway.
The important thing to remember is that apps can support either way, and it depends on what the setup is as to what is used at any given time.
Within audiobus 2.1, will all IAA instruments be defaulted to IAA generator only? so confused...
Just tried using it in Auria as an IAA effect. Working nicely. Need to find it at the bottom of the list where it says 'Yonac: Galileo (FX)' if you want to use as an effect. IAA transport controls where a bit in a way of effect control but not if you press FULL SCN

No. Generator is a freebie with AB2.1. It's up to the developer to take it beyond that.
Error in AudioShare when loading it as IAA effect.
Seems like the IAA clock sync should be a part of the SDK to me, but since Michael and Seb are way smarter than me, I'll just make the comment and go back under my bridge.
I'm still getting issues with it and cubasis.
am only using Galileo and cubasis...not using AB.
Gonna sleep on it.may check with the dev 2moro.
