Earhoof midi update

Not seen any love yet for the Earhoof midi update yet today.... This is exactly what I needed to start using it more. Midi for single hits, ranges or loop plays with midi sync too, bloody brilliant :) Thanks dev!

  • Let us know how you get on....

  • Hey @skoptic ... you are very welcome! :)

Fun tip: Depending on your controller, don't forget that you can assign Aftertouch to control an aspect of the range as you trigger rhythms.

Definitely let me know of any problems - the best way is through the official Psicada support email. Otherwise, have fun! And don't ever be shy about shooting some of your tunes my way.

    Thanks,
    -Brendan ("Mr. Hoof" haha)

  • Indeed a very nice update ! Works great as external synced instument in Logic X (iConnectMidi4+ and IODock)
    Thanx a lot :^)

  • Thanks for the update. That was the missing link for a percussion app ;) it was always fun to jam but now in sync. Nice one!

  • Can I trigger it through a Cubasis MIDI track? What are the MIDI notes I need to place?

Hey Brendan @Psicada, thanks for the wonderful update!
Any chance of making the app Universal?

I would like to see the speaking-slow-explanation-for-dumb-johnnies on this one...

Yes you can. All the setup /note info is configurable in the settings section.

  • There are multiple ways to trigger sounds using MIDI, and each method has its own little area in the MIDI setup panel. Note that all MIDI controls are learnable, so assigning them should be as easy as hitting the button to activate learning, and then playing your key or knob.

So let's say that you want to use your keyboard to trigger sounds from Earhoof, and you're not concerned with playing back the rhythms or any of that stuff. As you know, each point along the instrument's vertical gradient produces (or can produce) a different sound. The idea is to define a range of MIDI notes (a range of notes on your keyboard/controller/DAW), and have that range map to places along that gradient. So say you use C2-C5 as your range. C2 will play the sound at the bottom of the instrument, C5 will play the sound at the top. The notes in between will play at places in between. In this scenario, the MIDI velocities will change the volume of the voices which play back.

You may also want to trigger sounds using just a single MIDI note. For instance, you may want to assign Earhoof to the "hi hat" channel of a drum machine. Most likely you'll only be able to have that channel output a single MIDI note. So you can choose this note in Earhoof, and when that note gets triggered, the MIDI velocity will trigger where on the gradient the sound plays back from. So a velocity of 0 will play at the bottom, 127 will play at the top.

You can also use MIDI to "virtually play" the instrument. In other words, do all the slidey-pinchy things. First you choose which MIDI notes (i.e. keys on your controller) should make the rhythms play. Four rhythms, so you choose four different notes. Then you chooser two controllers/knobs. These knobs control the vertical position of the virtual touches, and also how far apart these virtual touches are.

As far as MIDI sync goes, just a reminder that you need to explicitly enable it in the MIDI setup panel.

These methods of MIDI control aren't mutually exclusive, by the way. So you can define one area of your keyboard to trigger sounds, and then another area to trigger the rhythms.

Definitely hit me up with any further questions, and thank you for your interest.

    -Brendan

  • Great tips, thanks!

    .......

Midi update sounds awesome. Gonna play with all those over the weekend.
Thanks for your work on this update.

  • Brilliant, great info, thanks Mr. Hoof.

  • +1 Mister Hoof.

  • Cool, missing midi was the only reason why I didn't buy it. :)

  • Is the midi sync sending as master or receiving as Slave?

  • Can i trigger sounds from Animoog or other ios synth?

  • edited October 2014

Nobody have it? Is on Sale and i want to buy it but only if works with animoog or other ios synth, please let me know

  • There is no midi out. Sync can be slaved. I'm having problems with midi out in Animoog (message stating that it must be purchased, but I have purchased it and it shows as purchased in Animoog's store), but other midi senders seem to be working fine.

    Thanx a lot :)

  • Just revisited Earhoof. The midi implementation to use from a controller is awesome. Well thought out and lots of fun.
