iOS Apps for Drone Music | Drone Day 2023 (See Pinned Comment)

Happy Drone Day!

Droning is one of the most ancient musical techniques and there has been a resurgence of interest in drone music in recent years. In this spoken walkthrough, I look at some - just some, there are many more! - iOS / iPadOS apps that lend themselves well to droning. Some are FX apps, some are midi generators, some are instruments. Here, my host app is AUM, a perfect experimental playground for such things.

Some devs whose apps are included in this video:

Moog
Igor Vasiliev
Bram Bos
Bleass
Audio Damage with Hainbach
Eventide
Phonolyth
Life Orange
Intermorphic
K-Devices
AudioThing
Decidedly (David Hilowitz)
ApeSoft
auDSPr
SonicLAB / Sonic Planet
Michal Macura

The vid’s pinned comment includes links to many of the apps covered in the vid.

This will be a premiere, so come join me and other ambient / drone / experimental lovers in the live chat:

No giveaway today, but please remember to 👍 and comment to help with the algo. Cheers!

  • Thanks for the video Gavinski, I might win the prize for the fewest of the apps you demoed, I think 4 or 5… Cheers

  • Clicked on the vid and gave it a thumbs up. :) I know I'm going to love it, but I'll check it out once I make it time for lunch. ^_^ Right now, I'm just in the mood to experiment with music.

  • You inspired me right now .. here little ambient/drone on my iPhone siting on couch next to my son who took my iPad, he is watching kids songs on YT and doesn't want to give me iPad back :-D :-D

Half way through this and I LOVE it Dendy! Masterful stuff.

I’m also super curious - how come the main AUM screen is horizontal but the AUv3s are showing vertically? What sorcery is this!

Hehehe! Mine too. I'm saving your vid for after lunch. This way I can make a list of apps I may not have yet or forgot to download to my Mini 6.

this is just how AUM behaves on my iPhone , i didn 't do anything to force it to work that way :))

  • Now I saw the whole video. Some really amazing app recommendations, from the noisy and dark to the tonal and serene, and everything inbetween. :)

Thanks J! Any ones you didn’t have here? I felt that most of these would be ones that long time forum lurkers would have. VOSIS and Latch are probably the most obscure.

Yeah VOSIS and Latch passed me by. I forgot about True Pan and bought that. I forgot to redownload SpaceFields and Mangledverb onto my new Mini 6, so thanks for the reminder. 😉 I'm pretty much good on everything else.

Vosis is super cool...I had a few unexpected things happen with it in this demo that I'm not sure were error on my part or something buggy in the app. Need to experiment more as the latest update was very recent. An extremely unique and inspiring app though!
