Very different I thought to your normal very different creations… enjoyed it a lot 👍
Nice track. Kind of thing I'm trying to do.
@GeoTony @Wyvern It’s not what I normally do, but I’m trying to do some new things. Most probably would not consider this to be ambient, but I go by the Brian Eno definition.
Wyvern, I would love to hear what you’re working on. Please post when you are ready.
Thanks for listening!
Tagging @Svetlovska for this one. Not sure if this fits the definition of Ambient, but I like this sort of Experimental music. You're always surprising us with each new track you release.
@jwmmakerofmusic Hi Jim! Hope everything is going well. Respectfully, I must disagree with you on this.
“Ambient music must be able to accommodate many levels of listening attention without enforcing one in particular; it must be as ignorable as it is interesting.” - Brian Eno
The music of Brian Eno was carefully composed and crafted to be just that. It was not just random. Please notice that in this live performance of Music For Airports, that each musician is playing their own specific part from actual sheet music. They were not just making it up as they went along. Brian Eno had a plan.
I would maintain that Mercury Rising is both engaging and totally ignorable. Probably mostly ignorable!
Well I said I wasn't sure if your piece fit the definition of Ambient or not. I never said that it was or that it wasn't, just that I myself was unsure.
But you make a very valid point about your piece, and you linked me to a video I know I'm going to love watching.
Don't know how you found it, but I'm glad you shared it.
And I listened intently to "Mercury Rising".
It's excellent.
@jwmmakerofmusic Thanks, Jim! It’s way past my bedtime. Gotta get up for work tomorrow. Have a nice night.
You too, my friend. Best of luck tomorrow.
Ambient
relating to the immediate surroundings of something.
"the liquid is stored at below ambient temperature"
relating to ambient music.
That’s a pretty broad definition, no?
Lovely textures, the track just washes over you.
I like that description! Thank you.
@LinearLineman
"relating to the immediate surroundings"
Exactly!
I will have a rather lengthy response later tonight.
I just got into the office and I am looking at the usual Friday clusterf**k.
A nice mix of different sounds that work well together.
Hi Colin. Thanks for listening. Cheers!
I got up early yesterday to have some coffee and enjoy the sunrise before going to work. As i sat there I realized that everything around me was the perfect definition of ambient. It was really peaceful and quiet, but at the same time… it wasn’t. There were a few birds, but not just birds. There were robins and sparrows, each with a different song. They were not there by accident. They were put there by something. There were also the sound of wind chimes. We have four of them, soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. We put them out every spring, and they sound beautiful whenever there is a light breeze. The other thing I noticed was the sound of the expressway about three blocks from our back yard. In spite of the tall noise barriers, there is always some background noise. When Joey and his friend would go “camping” in the back yard, he would complain about it. I told him to pretend it was the ocean. The next morning he said “Wow, that worked. I fell asleep right away!”. Occasionally, some rude trucker will engine brake and spoil the moment. That happened when I was working on this track. Near the end, there is an obnoxious power chord that spoils the moment. That’s where I got the idea for that. Throughout the whole thing there is a repeating pattern that I spread out across several tracks, each with a different synth sound. It’s just background noise, but it’s there if you choose to focus on it, or not. At one point I happened to look up at our thermometer, and noticed that it had gone from low 70s to mid 80s. Well now, that’s my title!
I like to think of ambient as more than random textures and synth pads. Structure can also be a part of the mix, as long as it’s ignorable, or not. I will leave that to the listener to decide.
Just my opinion. Your mileage may vary!
Have a musical day, my friend!
Very interesting, so different of what you and still so nice
