Xequence2 - Audition notes in editor

Is there a way to audition the notes when selected? It would help a lot in creating better chord progressions or melodies.

Normally, notes should be played when you select them by tapping (this only works for individual notes though, not marquee selection). Also when you use the transpose (vertical) handle on the right (if enabled in settings).

I thought that you can select notes and then loop them, but apparently that does not work.
Maybe I tried in a wrong way?

    Let's try to summon @SevenSystems

You can select notes, then in the Loop menu in the top toolbar, tap "selection", and then hit play... but that will play the whole song, so it might not be that helpful.

  • @Rainer to preview the currently selected notes together, just tap on the vertical handle, that should do!

Make sure transposition audition is enabled:

  • Thanks for your comments … I am searching more like a functionality like in Ableton where you drag over several notes (marquees selection) and then you here them succeedingly as soon as they get selected, and by that perceiving them as chords … would be a great addition if it not already exists …

That's an interesting suggestion -- i.e. audition notes also during marquee selection, not only when tapped to select. I'll add that to the roadmap for a future update!

Till then, your only options are to either tap them individually to hear them, or tap the vertical handle to hear all selected notes at once.

  • While we're with suggestions, would it be possible to enable and change settings for the scale function directly from the piano roll, without having to go into the keyboard, as well as expand and collapse the notes on the scaled piano roll the same way it works in Gadget?

  • To keep the ball rolling  … another suggestion would be the ability to activate/deactivate notes … great if this could be added to the roadmap too.

  • @Darkstring @Rainer both good suggestions, noted! :)

  • And while the creativity flows, how about a few basic built in sounds? :#

I have both a full AUv3 hosting engine including mixer etc. in development, as well as an NS2-esque internal sound engine... I can't add another one 😂 but I get your point.

Oooh developing a full new host? Woah, didn't expected that!

I was rather expecting the opposite,i.e. an AUV3 version of xequence 2 😁

So, thats an auv3 host running inside Xequence?

  • @jsmonzani @Ailerom because of current constraints regarding my ability to develop Xequence further (financial and personal), I'm actually considering open-sourcing it so the community can unlock all its potential and existing hidden gems. But I would want a crowdfunding campaign to get at least a few months or a year of potential lost future revenue. I'm not sure how feasible that path is but it is under consideration once I can work on that plan. I think it might work out! 🤔
