Why I’m still using Logic vs IOS 17
Basically I like using my iPad as a looper with my op-1 field. The usb connectivity is great except the feedback we get when using most apps. In Logic Pro we don’t get this as we are able to change the inputs and outputs. For me this is the only reason I'm using Logic. Do you think IOS 17 will make it so we will be able to do the same thing as Logic in say AUM? This will be a game changer and I’ll be able to get rid of Logic. Crossing my fingers!

From what I know developers can already add this feature to their app but so far no one has.
iPadOS17 is rumored to get something similar to the Audio & Midi setup for setting default devices.
We'll know more after next week once WWDC'23 is over...
Awesome. Thx. I’m surprised AUM hasn’t done this already.
Well I didn’t see this mentioned at all unless I missed something.
WWDC'23 is a full week of sessions and audio related things seldom make the main keynote...
Ahh ok. Cool
MIDI AUFx capability was little more than a passing mention on a powerpoint slide in a routine WWDC session. If not for Bram Bos looking into it and persisting until he produced the Rozeta suite, who knows if we would even have MIDI FX to this day.
That was one of my biggest gripes when I had my OG op-1. Hopefully that’ll be a universal thing soon.
I would be very happy if Apple would allow us to freely set the in and out of USB audio on iOS.
However, as you say, if you just want to use the iPad as a looper for the OP-1F, I think you should be able to use earphones.
USB audio on iOS will be replaced with the one added later, so I think that AUM and other host apps will solve it by simply connecting the OP-1F first and then the earphones.
Perhaps you know this and I'm sorry if you wrote that you want to output from the iPad's built-in speaker.
If so, I don't have any ideas at the moment and haven't tried it, but it might be possible with LogicPro.
Isn’t this possible with Logic Pro? If not I’m guessing it will be on ipados17
Yep it is on Logic but would like to be able to just do this with AUM or Loopy Pro
No unfortunately I get feedback when I do it using my op-1 directly….
No, it will be possible as in the picture. The point is to connect the OP-1F first and then connect the USB earphone adapter or earphones.
But if the earphone you are using has a microphone or the terminal is TRRS, the OP-1F input first will be replaced with the earphone microphone. For this reason, you must choose to use earphones without a mic or a TRS conversion adapter.
Also, if you have AudioBus3 you can turn on the multi-route audio of Audiobus3 and you will be able to select either with earphone microphone or TRRS in addition to OP-1F. This will remain in that state even if Audiobus is in the background and connected via AUM.
By the way, I checked LogicPro's in/out. As you said, I was able to select the output destination and even the built-in speakers.
Before I was surprised by LogicPro's capabilities, I was amazed that such control is already possible on the software side.
Of course, I regret that you cannot select more than one at the same time.
AUM
Audiobus3
LogicPro
Yes, I knew you could do it with logic, but that’s amazing that you can do it the other way you said as well. Thanks so much!
Here is what’s up. My op-1 field goes into the iPad so I don’t have any headphones to plug-in through USB.
I tried audiobus and the output only shows op-1 not iPad speaker which I was hoping for.
I see on yours it does so that is weird.
My workaround for now is to open up Logic Pro on the iPad and select iPad speaker.
Now I can just open AUM separately not in Logic and the output automatically goes to iPad speaker which is what I wanted from the beginning.
I do have the TE TX-6 which works great but sometimes I just want to take out my iPad and Op-1 and work this way only using the iPads speakers which actually sound great!!!
Are you sure that developers can do it in iOS 16 and that the Logic team isn't privy to ways of doing this that isn't known to developers? My understanding is that that was the case years ago with multi-core audio threading in Garageband. There were some tricks the GB team was able to do to get the most out of CPUs that weren't known/available to outside developers. There was a blog post years ago from one of GB's engineers about this.
Yes, they can do it already, it's just a matter of time before we see more apps exploiting this 'feature'.
Competition is good for the platform.
