MPC One+ Thought

Is it me or did Akai miss a golden opportunity to make a must have device?

The + moniker would’ve made more sense with the addition of a battery 🙄. Akai could’ve charged more and many MPC One owners would’ve sold their devices and gladly upgraded. The size and form factor make the MPC One a great portable idea! Just my thoughts…

Comments

  • It would conflict with Live2 sales if it had batteries

  • The MPC One should have come with wifi from the beginning!

Don't get their logic. If I had known I was going to encounter so much grief trying to get
Plugins activated I may well have steered ckear of Akai😪

Maybe the hakai team could find a way to support the plus firmware on the og mpc one and plugging a (linux compatible) usb wifi dongle would work for wireless
PS. As soon as the whole "ecosystem" with plugins started I left . Will get a sp404mkII soon :)

To be fair Roland, on the whole Roland are pretty good, over the last 35 years I have owned numerous JV1080,2080,XV3080, 5080, Fantom X6 XP50 and they have never gone wrong. Was actually looking at the MC-707, I believe this can sample too. Get's good reviews.

That was my initial thought as well. Although, I feel like the battery is what would truly make it a plus heck they could charge $200 more and people would buy. They could even make it limited edition.

They had to keep the price as it's the "base" model plus there is no room inside for optional battery
Also I believe that the headphone socket would be damaged when moving around

So how much space is actually left inside?
Flat Lipo Cells can find their space almost everywhere, otherwise our slim iPads wouldn't exist.

Actually my mistake , there is room , photo posted here on the forum

akai could offer an optional upgrade kit

    Wow, great point!

  • I'd argue the Live is the must have MPC for most people nowadays. If you look at product lineup of Akai's MPC, you'll see that the updates aren't for users who already have the first generation product. It's not a drastic change. X to X SE, Live to Live 2, One to One +. The functionality does not change much which has been true for nearly all of the MPC upgrades in the past. The revisions are better buys for the people who are buying new not for people wanting to upgrade. The omission of the battery I understand the frustration but the One was never going to be battery powered. I own a MPC One and bought a battery pack that I velcro to the bottom for the portability factor. It works great too and I can create for hours. The Live's design just doesn't mesh well with me and its heavier than the one.

    Wow!!!

I mean the storage and connectivity upgrades are valid (although I agree with @Sandstorm that WIFI should’ve been included from day 1), but the battery would’ve been a game changer in this form factor. How did Akai miss this? I feel to some degree an MPC One with an internal battery is at least a Maschine + killer 😂 the size is perfect for portability.

Yeah, I don’t like Live’s layout, I prefer everything centered. Live is bigger too.

  • Got my Mpc one + about a month ago
    This thing rocks
Still fighting for time with this due to kids and life, but I am quickly learning and enjoying using buttons rather than touching a screen all the time
There’s still room for my iPad Pro, but this is so much fun

    🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 Nice!
My MPC One has become my multitrack recorder with Tascam 24 perfectly interfacing as the mixer. All my hardware gear, MacBook, and iPad are patched in. It really makes for a jam session setup!

I’d say Akai is quite a way ahead of the rest as a central hub, although adding plugins to the MPC is it’s weakness in CPU horsepower and it’s RAM usage as a sampler with some of the larger instruments, it really is time it got disk streaming capabilities.

  • @Stuntman_mike
I have to keep getting my kit out and plugging in
I don’t have a dedicated area, it kills my flow
But try explaining that to a family of 5
    @knewspeak
Been plan sailing so far for me
I have a Bluetooth dongle attached on the input so I can sample from my phone with no cable
And Bluetooth midi from Mpc to iPad works well
I don’t think I will be sampling for a few months yet due to the sounds on board
But same I love this machine
I just need a few weeks on my own without the family
Am sure I would make a number one hit
Haha ( I doubt anyone else would pay to hear my noise)

    I know the feeling! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
My new home has allowed for an office for work, so it’s an office/studio…

I recently purchased multiple 50 foot instrument cables so now almost all my synths are patched in around the office, so I just turn on the Tascam 24 and MPC One to start jamming with any synth, drum machine, MacBook or iPad plugins. As you can probably see my next phase is cable management 🙃

Local guy blessed me with Behringer Model D and Wasp for only $200 total, so I’m going to mount two floating shelves to place them above the Grandmother and use my Novation Launchkey 37 up top on second tier in the corner as their MIDI controller. 🙌🏽

  • Wow
You have an amazing set up
Must of taken a few years
    Good luck to you

    Thank you, thank God!
I made a want list years ago and it’s like the gear found me… deals and deals have come my way 🙏🏻

  • Now MPC 3 software incoming at some point
Just getting used to the workflow and enjoying it. Now soon new software for standalone
I am gonna jump on the beta if they send me a link, as I only have about 20 projects etc, may as well get used to the new workflow.
For the time being I am just gonna concentrate on sample chopping etc, as certain parts will be the same
Stems a few weeks ago, and now this
Guess I brought my Mpc one + at the right time

But I kinda like the Mpc original workflow, and it was one of the main reasons I bought an MPC, to get away from the DAW workflow, oh well
    Just my opinion

I just received an email this morning with a link to sign up for the Public Beta: https://www.akaipro.com/mpc3

  • Snap
    I signed up straight away
I am new to Mpc , so the changes won’t hurt me too much

  • I have a feeling a lot of people who sold their MPC Ones will be regretting it soon.
