Magic Fusion (iOS / Desktop) by GSDSP | 15-min Walkthrough & Giveaway!

Magic Fusion (iOS / Desktop) by GSDSP | 15-min Walkthrough & Giveaway!

I have 3 copies of ANY GS DSP app for iOS to give away. Details, as usual, are in the pinned comment. You will also find a link there to my video on Beat Scholar, which has an open giveaway to win 5 free copies of Beat Scholar at the time of writing.

Magic Fusion by GS DSP is an extremely interesting take on spectral vocoding / gating. Its key plus points, as with other apps in the ‘Magic’ series, are the ability to set a multitude of simultaneous specific per-frequency delays, 4 curves all morphable via xy pad, a versatile randomisation system and a modulation system that is both easy to use and includes some extremely novel modulation sources.

This video demos it using first some vocals as a modulator, then drums, goes through all the features in a brief spoken walkthrough / tutorial and explains the principle behind the concept of a multi-curve spectral delay - of which this is the first in the world, apparently.

For a more detailed understanding of how things like the curves, curve editors, modulation system in the ‘Magic’ apps work, see my long walkthrough on Magic Delay, linked to in the video.

  • Nice demo, thanks for this.

What is the voice preset you are using in XinematiX ? It sounds great

I like the new ChordJam so much with its « semi »-MPE implementation

Thanks! That XinematiX preset is Staccato Choir 1 from the XinemtiX Choir pack. I really like the choir packs in XinematiX. And yes, the new Chordjam update is loooovely!

  • Timestamps have been added, btw, also a link in the pinned comment to a vid that GS DSP did on how to set up sidechain for this in Logic Pro for iPad!

  • This looks quite similar to Apesoft Sparkle, does it not?

Apart from the curve functions etc. I even mentioned Sparkle in my vid. Gs dsp's claim that this is the first spectral vocoder is false. But it maybe (I don't know!) is the first spectral vocoder with this level of control.

  • I want to see a synth from them next

Indeed you did, I only got around to watching it last night.

  • Nice!

  • When we say "spectral" we actually mean that you are able to control a parameter across frequencies. For example, MagicDelay lets you set the delay time per frequency, MagicPitch lets you set the Pitch, and MagicFusion lets you set the amount of vocoding. In this way, MagicFusion is the world's first spectral Vocoder, but of course there are others who have done Vocoding in the frequency domain.

@frosttrance_7 I have been thinking about this a lot actually ;)
