It honestly wasn't as great as I hoped IMHO...it was kinda sketch at times and didn't like my laptop very much lol
I never understood the situation. This massive decades old DAW purchased by some random company then made free. The deal always seemed odd.
Good timing on my part. I was a Cakewalk/Sonar user for at least 15 years. I just got fed up with the windows environment including all the maintenance issues. Last month I puchased a MacBook Pro and Logic Pro. Huge learning curve, but I am really impressed so far.
As stated in the article, the free version will be replaced by 2 new versions with prices TBA, Cakewalk Sonar and Cakewalk Next. So I guess it’s not really gone.

As they state "Note that existing Cakewalk by BandLab users will be able to continue using the software after the release of Cakewalk Sonar.”" - I only use it for layering on Emvoice (voice synth - one day there might be an IOS version !!)
Mixing is such a satisfying part of the music making process, and Sonar never failed.. With Logic Pro on iPad and its revolutionary simple way of creating music… Next by Cakewalk will have a lot of use..
