Beneath the Trees (Solo, Dolce, Omnisphere, ZebraHZ, Alchemy)

This is a music track that I improvised on two MIDI keyboards connected to Bitwig Studio on a desktop PC. There the MIDI was routed to Solo for the bassoon, oboe, violin, and flute; Dolce for the basses; and Omnisphere, ZebraHZ, and Alchemy for the background instruments.

After bringing the audio recording into Vegas Pro, I applied the Lurssen Mastering Console plug-in to the audio mix.

It's titled Beneath the Trees.

You do such impressive work. Love the richness and orchestral feel of this, and the lovely visuals. Should be rumbling through a THX sound system in an imax theatre somewhere, as we watch a montage of the new planetary settlers establishing themselves on a vast greensward, beneath twin suns somewhere light years from home…

  • Thanks, @Svetlovska. Much appreciated. I've been trying to figure out how to orchestrate the various instruments when they're playing the same notes. Turns out you can use the limited note range for each instrument, as well as multi-track layering, to provide a fair amount of flexibility.

Listening to Leonard Bernstein conduct the Mahler Symphonies has helped, especially watching him do that through the Stage+ Live Classical Music app. It's so cool to see the music ripple through the orchestra as the notes, counter-melodies, and rhythms are passed from section to section. So much to learn, so little time.

  • Tell me about it! I took my first ever piano lesson via an app today. Now my right wrist aches (wrong position) and I will be having nightmares about pecking out the notes of Ode to Joy super super slowly… it just might take me a while to catch you up. :)

  • This is very good improvisation for the style, and cool video

How many tracks total did it take for this mini chamber orchestra?

Is bigwig an all in one daw , where it had all the instruments internally? If that’s stock sounds I would be into it

Do you use iPad for recording?

  • Another beautiful, cinematic piece. Always love the visuals! @DavidEnglish

One of these days I’m going to have to cave in and purchase Vegas Pro! (I know… I keep saying it) and I was just on their page looking at all of the purchase and/or subscription options they offer, and while they now have options that seem affordable; they’re quite tempting. But then I always come to my senses and realize… “ughhh desktop”! I just can’t do it lol

So I’ll wait until “Vegas Pro for iPad” comes out ha ha!

Hey, I wonder if Final Cut Pro for iPad has any “visualizer” stuff. Anyone know?

Hey that’s awesome. Congrats! Happy to hear you’ve taken an interest in learning.

It has 11 tracks. Every instrument has its own track. They all have the same notes, though the tracks will come in and out individually (see below). And sometimes I'll raise or lower the notes an octave, in order to bring the notes into the range of the instrument.

I have used an iPad for recording (mostly with AUM), but not lately.

It's pretty comprehensive. There are a lot of built-in instruments, but I've been using third-party plug-ins.

Here's a screenshot from the new one that I'm posting today. It has 15 tracks.

  • Lovely rich deep sounds , beautiful track 👌

  • Thanks, @GeoTony. Much appreciated.
