BoC on iOS? Recommendations welcome

Hi,

Looking for BoCanadian plug ins.
I want to have have warm, saturated tapeish plug ins. Stutters can be done with e.g. Looperator etc…
I found Rc 20. is there an alternative on iOS?
Which Synths on iOS do you recommend?

Any recommendations are welcome.

  • Chow Tape Model is free

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/chowtapemodel/id1557806564

IK MixBox has a cassette module which is fairly much instant BoC'ey (Plus a ton more) but is RC20 type cash.

  • Not synths, but @childofthecorndog has done a lot of sound packs that take you there especially his preset pack for moog model 15.

Reels is a very good tape simulator that has the warble, but there are plenty of others depending on your taste. A good free one is chowtape.

Funnily enough the new baby audio synth has a battery level slider that if you bring down to under 20% makes everything sound like BoC

  • I ll Check them. Thanks

Baby audio pitch drift can get you close-ish to the tape varispeed effect they use…

    https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/pitch-drift-baby-audio/id1659406720

SuperVHS has more lo-fi fx and saturation.

Hopefully it's coming for iOS I really like the VHS sound, it's a bit different from the normal tape sound

  • Yeah super VHS would be a good, and cheap, choice. Taluno and VAPoly for synths. Chow tape for sure.

  • I forgot fly tape.

I don’t have that one but it’s got the lofi tape tricks like pitch drift and stops.

If you have drambo, @childofthecorndog has done a really awesome tape simulator effect for that... it's actually one of my favourites. :)

  • Gauss Field Looper would be another nice one, both used as a looper and tape effect and maybe also just for field recording

Mixbox has a really great tape delay and some other fx that could be useful

  • 😮

  • I think Synths aren’t so important for boc Style and fx are the mission…

Super VHS will be the 3rd release once they start the iOS ports of the original plugins. Release starts next quarter

The mixbox cassette module is instant BoC with tons of wow, flutter and pitch drift. It’s probably best to wait for a sale for Mixbox, list price is pricy.

It’s probably not worth getting just for the casette module but it will get you instant BoC tape style with the least messing about.

For tape delays, RE-1, k7d are nice. Re-1 has a Looper.

Audiothing Wires is also great. Not necessarily exactly like BoC but you can take it into all sorts of lo-fi loveliness. You can automate the pitch and stop the transport to emulate the BoC pitch drift effect. If you go light on the wire emulation and noises you can get a very lofi cassettey sound out of it.

I use it a lot as a delay on Mac. I’m a big fan of keeping the main signal clean and having the delays be filthy. Rolling off the bass keeps them out of the way and adds a ton of life to a track.

Wires is a lot more than a number station emulation :-)

  • Mixbox from Ik?

I’m desperately waiting for a sale on Mixbox haha. There’s a $20 version with a little less than half the modules but not sure if the Tape module is included.

Yeah. I did mention this in my reply directly under the OP :-)

Fly Tape 2 is £5.99 and will do exactly what you need for the BoC tape effects. Much (much) cheaper than MixBox.

Glad you dig that fx rack ✌️ Heads up it’s included in Drambo’s Factory fx (see pic) if anyone wants to check it out (No need to hit patchstorage) 🦧

  • I was expecting a thread about a different band, but I guess that would be BÖC.

Loads of cowbells for IOS, but is it ever enough?

Haha. It’s never enough for me. Also, in addition, to loving cowbell-rich music, I have three herds of cows that need constant rebelling

Yeah, I thought after I wrote that it might not be obvious that I meant re-belling. Good clicking. Good as a click track.
