Filter EG as modulation source in Moog Model D
I'm still kind of a synth noob, so can someone explain to me what exactly is happening when I set Filter EG as the modulation source for Filter Modulation? It sounds sort of different to my ears, but isn't the Filter EG already affecting Cutoff Frequency even without Filter Modulation turned on? Thanks.
Comments
It sets the filter envelope as the modulation source with the mod wheel. It’ll still modulate the filter but it’ll modulate the pitch as well
So would there be any point in setting Filter EG as modulation source, setting Filter Modulation on, and setting Oscillator Modulation off? Or would it be redundant and not change the sound since Filter EG already affects Cutoff Frequency by default?
Oh wait nevermind, I think I get the difference now. Filter EG as modulation source also affects Cutoff Frequency but (unlike the Filter EG's default behavior) it bypasses the Amount of Contour. So basically it let's you use the mod wheel to alter the Amount of Contour? At least I think so because on an init patch, having Mod Wheel at 0% and Amount of Contour at 100% seems to produce identical filter behavior as having Mod Wheel at 100% and Amount of Contour at 0%.
this knob and buttons bellow sets the modulation sourcemodulation, nothign alse... left button sets mod spurce when knob is in most left position, right button sets mod source when knob is in most right position.. of course using knob you can blend between them.. somwhen you set it like in screenshot, modulated sorce is only filter eg. You can then affect AMOUNT of that modulation with modwheel.
Now
In filter case, you can also directly apply Filter EG with "amount of countour" knob. Practifally only differnce, when you apply Filter EG mod to filter using that modulation source controller at keft side of synth when compared to dirrsct apply with "amount of control" knob in filter secrion is that you can then affect this modulation with modwheel ...
Also when you enable both filter modulation by mod source AND tou also tweak filter "amount of contour" knib then modulation amount is added together (so it increases)
