Rock Chop - chopped up guitar wankery

Used some riffler loops for rhythm and lead. Chopped up the loops to create some lead guitar phrases.

After arranging in Cubasis with effects on, I exported the dry audio and applied vst effects in Mixcraft just to see what the vst plug-ins there sounded like. I used some Suhr amp sims and some brainworx pedal effects.

I like both mixes, but my PC one came out louder.

  • The wonky lead reminds me of Fripp’s noises for Bowie on Scary Monsters.

I thought the same thing! This and Blackstar are my 2 favorite Bowie albums. Fripps give Scary Monsters so much unique flavors. Teenage Wildlife has some amazing guitar work.

  • Thank you @Svetlovska & @HotStrange!

I need to listen to more Bowie. Which Bowie era is this from?

It came out in 1980 so at the tail end of his “classic” era. It’s a fantastic album.

If you like what Fripp was doing here, also check out what Fripp and Adrian Belew did on Discipline, the King Crimson album released in 1981. (Not to mention Bill Bruford’s equally innovative rototom heavy drumming on the album.) Up there with the Eno/Byrne My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts as revolutionary art rock. The whole album is a masterpiece but here’s a taste:

  • Overall I preferred the first one… the track really grows on you… thanks for posting 👍
