Looks cool! You might want to correct the thread title though, it's called 'Astral' not Astra!

  • OMG this looks groundbreaking, “gamechangier”

  • I think all of the sqsl apps look interesting but don't purchase non-AuV3 apps anymore. Hope this one includes it at release.

Will be highly surprised if it is auv3

This looks interesting, a galactic playing surface 🖖

This doesn’t look like a buy if there’s no auv3 periodt
    No logic usefulness no buy

  • Unfortunately a lot of the most interesting apps are actually not auv3, or sometimes not even iaa. This dev, as far as I can tell, basically makes his apps for himself. Of course it affects his sales but I don't think he is willing to put the time in to learn auv3 coding. I might be wrong, but that is my impression, as he has chosen to release 4 apps with no iaa never mind auv3 in the past 6 months rather than using that time to learn to code auv3. Really a pity though, I think a lot of people would buy these apps as auv3s.

  • Looks cool but days of no AU are over.

These apps are very inspiring, but for their price I would expect AUv3 support. I would say lower price plus AUv3 would probably lead to considerably more sales and income for the dev.

Yeah, I’m not as bothered about AUv3, especially with this more innovative interface type stuff. The prices, and lack of demos (not YouTube, actual demos I can play myself) really don’t make me want to take the risk…

Yes- for midi apps so lacking in connectivity they are arguably overpriced

  • Does anyone know, if this is a controller or Synth? Looks cool both ways, though.

No idea. Everything he has done so far has been a midi controller, but I'd love it if he made a synth instead.

Developer only seems to make MIDI controllers.

    Cool, thanks.

  • I only have Latch, haven’t felt the need to get any of the others yet, but this looks interesting. I’d love to see them go AUV3, but Latch is just so cool, I can’t help but to love it.

And for just setting up some drones in AUM, simply just working in the background is fine for me. Connect to a few AU synths, set up how I want it to work in the app, then back to AUM to add effects and record.

Yeah, and you can use in stage manager with aum. Lack of a proper preset system with names still irks me. Let's be under no illusions, all these apps could do with major improvements. Ableton link being the first thing needed. But... They are gorgeous and inspiring and unique. A lot of appeal for people who make experimental and ambient stuff. The dev mainly uses them to control external hardware which is why I think he didn't think through very well what would be needed by ios only musicians. He is definitely more aware of that now, but will he make the effort to make them auv3? Hope so, definitely not holding my breath.

  • "Siri, can you come up with an iOS music app developer name so cringey that it may actually put one off purchasing apps from them?"

I figured this was the case when I looked at his YouTube channel and all the demos were controlling external stuff. Definitely inspiring to play but also definitely needs improvement. Are the other 2 worth getting at all? Temp seems like it would really need Ableton link.

I might reach out and ask some questions about it. In the very little it will show that there’s more people interested in seeing it’s further development.

  • @Gavinski Still waiting for the Sqsl Temp tutorial you promised (or was it tease? :) ) months ago.. I really need to know a little about this app from someone who has it and can explain things as easily as you do - i kid you not every time I saw a red +1 badge notification on YouTube I clicked it in anticipation with fingers crossed saying to myself he finally did it he finally did it... to find it was something else.. anyway I might entice you to make even a basic video about Sqsl temp? I haven't bought any apps since, and that's saying something with all the apps that have been dropping lately..!

Yeah, I did mean to, and still do, I guess just life got in the way and a flood of new - AUv3 - releases. Beat scholar ended up eating into my time like crazy, Pianoteq too, and just enjoying being outside more as the weather improved lol. Sorry it ended up keeping you on tenterhooks!

I’ve been enjoying temp even without Link, but only really playing around with it rather than trying to make a track or anything. The last app he released I will definitely not make a video on unless it gets ableton link because for an app geared towards drums etc, that is really a must. I mean, I really want all of them to have link, I would definitely use them more.

A drum sequencer without at least ableton link is borderline pointless on iOS. All you could really do is sequence some drum apps and screen record loops but even then you could just…screen record the loops by themselves?? Lol. He definitely has a good design ethos, just severely lacking in connectivity.

For my purposes Latch is really all I need. I have more than enough other sequencers.
