Useful utility apps for piano players

What phone-based utility apps do piano players find helpful for supplementing learning and practicing?

My ~70ish father-in-law plays piano at his (small-town Catholic) church on Sundays (real piano to accompany singing in a traditional setting - I don't think they're rockin' out) and lately has been getting into practicing and improving his skills. He's played casually for most of his life and can read sheet music well enough to pick his way through the learning process for new songs. He's also a singer and sings along as he learns.

I'd like to give him an app for Father's Day. He doesn't have an iPad, so I'm not sure how useful some of the interesting score libraries might be for him, otherwise I'd jump on one of those.

Thanks, y'all.

  • iReal Pro. Not sure it's exactly what he's looking for, but it's useful for anyone to have. Good practice and learning tool.

Thanks. This looks great. I don't think he's used his phone for music, so it's a bit of an open question what he'll find useful. But this has a lot of depth to it and it's the kind of thing he can look at and explore. Worth a shot, anyway.

  • All the (mostly jazz) musicians I know have and use iReal Pro. It's a great practice tool, basically plays a backing track for any song you want at any tempo and in any key, thousands of songs to download (or you can enter your own): https://technimo.helpshift.com/hc/en/3-ireal-pro/faq/1-download-songs-from-forums/
