Primer is a synth equipped with the most essential controls and nothing more. Created by Audible Genius, it is an exact replica of the synth used in their award-winning synthesizer training app, Syntorial. As such, Primer contains the most common controls found on most subtractive/analogue synths, allowing for a wide variety of patches and sounds, while presenting a simple and easy-to-understand interface and layout.
Included with the Primer app is the AUV3 App Extension, allowing you to open multiple instances of Primer inside popular DAW apps like Garageband, Cubasis, and AudioBus.

Weird, it doesn‘t show up in a search but using the link I could download it
It looks like a UI update, I don‘t see any new features at first glance. Maybe an update under the hood too…
It has a new randomizer, and it looks like a bunch of new Getting Started patches, much better GUI too
Syntorial 2 is also out today, which is an update to what is generally regarded to be the best 'learn synthesis' hands-on method out there.
Very cool and nice sounding synth. Thanks for sharing!
Free, wow! How do you rate the filters @dendy? 😉
Thanks for pointing that out @thesoundtestroom - I have just recently downloaded this after seeing your post. I have to say that the randomiser feature by far and away is the best one I have come across on any synth ever. I’m has a very high hit rate for useful sounds. Sometimes you can be at it for ages on other synths and get nothing but this just keeps them coming.
I love the Flowtones randomizer where you can control how experimental or musical it is. Wish every randomizer had that option.
I like that option on it as well. Even with that option I still prefer the Primer one. When Doug was saying it was a ‘new’ randomizer as opposed to ‘a’ randomizer I’m just wondering if it has some sort of funky new algorithm built in?
Not sure. Also it seems like there’s 2 options for randomization. Is one for random preset selection?
The standard for randomizers has really been set by Audiothing, imo. Being able to choose exactly which parameters in any app get randomised is such a powerful tool. Much better than a 1 button randomiser. But great to hear the results from this one are so good anyway
I’m not quite sure. I have noticed a number of crashes when I’m randomizing. I’m maybe hitting it too often 😛
Haha I’ll have to put it to the test later 😎
This is really a very nice subtractive synth for free. There are plenty of not-free apps that lack the flexibility of this free app. You can map all of Primer's buttons, knobs, and faders to your MIDI controller (I use a Novation Launch Control XL) and you get a great "hardware synth" for very little $.
This is the big new, not the synth![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
