Has AB forum been sleeping on the free MMM midi plugin from GS DPS?
I just found this plug I had downloaded a few months back and forgotten about before really trying it -- MMM a midi modulator which uses audio input to modulate its midi output.
It has a great looking GUI, with a couple of alternate skins, in common with other plugins from the company, whose ios product are on the pricer side. I own one of them, MagicFusion. Pure GAS led to that purchase.
I loaded MMN into Matrix 1/RAU 2 of the Ape (Matrix) somewhat absent-mindedly and ran the output into Animoog Z whilst feeding its hungry input bus with a Hammerhead bam-de-dam and...
holy smokes. The first two presets gave me sounds that completely transformed the Animoog signal and sounded big and more menacing than any mom.
Twiddling the knobs wasn't quite as instantly rewarding, but it's clearly a deep app that requires some attention to fully enjoy.
I'm surpised the forum hasn't been all over this thing, given the love shown for Mozaic as well as its ilk, fellow travelers, and progeny. Barely any mention of it. Has it slipped under the radar somehow? It's free FFS.
Odd that it's bit mentioned more, assuming that in my pre-sleep state I wasn't delieriously overrating what it did out of the box.
This thing requires further investigation, but the first few minutes suggested
it oughta be an insta-grab for any midi-mangler hungry for ever-new kicks. Anyone else have thoughts on it?

I’m not surprised. I think because audio properties like amplitude and frequency can vary from source to source, it’s just the nature of the beast. I have FAC Envolver, which works off the same principle, audio to MIDI, and it takes me a while sometimes to find that sweet spot of triggerability.
I was aware of MMM, but I’ve never found myself in a session wishing I had more than two target destinations. Also being that I’m more fluent with Drambo these days, I’ve since deleted Envolver. I can have as many destinations as my CPU will allow using the envelope follower.
I can still see MMM as being useful for others.
Shows up in Audiobus but not AUM..? Unless I’m doing something wrong
It needs to be loaded in an audio effects slot, not in a midi slot. Could that be it?
I wasn't too surprised either. It has a few "templates that worked for Ani-Z, but I'm not sure if their names (Minotaur, for one) refer to existing synths. I assume so, haven't looked.
If only finding a synth by searching for its name in AppStore was a reliable strategy. One click and I'd have my answer.
Ha, I know what you mean. The App Store search engine is the worst. Most times it seems the only way to find anything is by Tribal Knowledge, such as this thread.
You’ll find there isn’t much that the AB forum misses, or sleeps on 😁

Yes! Thanks!
I doubt that’s the case. Patches within any one synth vary a lot.
But the midi mapping would remain the same regardless of the patch... I'm rarely sure what I'm talking about and still getting to know this, so I may be still totally in the dark as to what's going on here
I think precisely because it was free is why it didn't make much of a splash. People tend not to value free stuff. Especially if they grab it on a busy week where they also grabbed other paid stuff, it's very possible they will tend to the new stuff and ignore the free stuff, then forget they have it.
Anyone confused about how to use this will find my YouTube Magic Delay vid helpful, as this has the same modulation as it and the other 'magic' apps
Yep. I bought MagicFusion in a fit of GAS, because I'm not that really into vocoders, but I thought they were the coolest thing ever when I was little, and part of me always goes back to those earlier wants. Most of me actually. Those Igor apps with the baffling interfaces drew me in because any scope or button labeled panel I would see out in the world filled me with delight and wonder.
I think for some of us that complexity is a bug, not a feature, because you feel like you are in the presence of something technical, yet so arcane and mysterious it almost takes on an occult quality. That's my cheap pop pschology for the day...
Edit:
Similarly, I studied philosphy in Uni, and though I took it seriously and was interested in the content, I did enjoy it when someone would pick up my Kant's Critique of Pure reason and be completely baffled within 3 words. Made me feel like one of the ancient ones, privy to mysteries out of the reach of most men haha
Deleted for dundancy.
Deleted for redundancy
Deleted for Nancy
Ah, somehow I missed that thread, only saw the second and one or two others of a few comments. That's a bit more like it, but still relatively unknown for a pretty swell free plugin I think...
😂😂😂😂😂
Berated for dancing
It all redounded to my delinquency
No berating here. Yea I was going to mention that’s it’s been discussed. I’ll admit I haven’t used it as much as I want to. Apparently the are also developing MMMm a mini version that will also be free. It will be more traditional and modulate with midi only.
I think the app is great! Also there’s a test flight link to the new little brother version on the devs twitter
Agreed. Plus I think that dev's guis are pretty... well, just pretty. Thx for the tip re the beta.
I tried it but I does nothing. What is it for ?
Because it is not just lfos but also has envelope follower capabilities you have to load it in an audio fx slot. The devs have some videos regarding this on youtube. The video I made on Magic Delay is also helpful as it uses the same modulation system
I have no idea what a enveloppe follower is. I should probably stick banging on pots and pan.
