How do I connect Arturia Minilab 3 to iPad 9 (without a hub)?

I figured, since the Minilab 3 is USB-C, that I could just use my iPad's Apple USB-C to Lightning cable: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MQGH2AM/A/usb-c-to-lightning-cable-2-m

But when I do that the Minilab 3 doesn't turn on. Any advice?

  • I guess you need the camera adapter to get the iPad in master mode.

Never mind. Figured it out. I needed to use the Lighting to USB Camera adapter (https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD821AM/A/lightning-to-usb-camera-adapter) to get it to power Minilab 3. So what I did was use a UCB-C to A cable, then plugged the A end of the cable to the camera adapter, then that into iPad.

  • can you get the transport on your minilab3 to be midi mappable? you can midi learn all the knobs and sliders in most apps but not the transport i cant figure it out. sorry to derail

Which are the MIDI messages of the transport buttons?

    A few questions:

    • Are you using User programs?
    • Are you using the newest (v1.1) firmware?
    • How do you have the transport controls setup in MIDI Control Center?

Transport mode is a bit busted in v1.1. At the very least Shift+Pad (the only way of sending transport prior to v1.1) behaves differently than the new Transport mode, when they should be equivalent. An Arturia representative told me that the development team is aware of the problem.

  • thank you @Grandbear i believe you made some of these suggestions to me before. i was on arturia website last weekend and jumped thru the hoops thinking i needed to download all the analog lab lite and other instruments to get the transport mode update. anyways after all that i tried to get the update but it says it doest know where to send the update but i have minilab3 plugged into imac and alls good but still wont work. i will go into the settings and see if there is anything i have to change.

  • Glad you got it figured out. I think only iPads with usb-c port are capable of bus power.

  • The camera adapter will work for ipads with lightning. As mentioned above get a usb c to a cable and plug it into the camera adapter.

One question. Using a moog Model D or other soft synth does anyone use the mpe setting or just midi channel 1 to get minilab to function more completely. I'm using a keylab 49 mk3
