magicverb algorithmic or convolution?
hy guys,
i have mixed feelings about magicverb.
it does sound good, but somehow 30 bucks are too much for a few convolution presets.
almost no control except predelay and decay.
file size is 160mb, makes me think this are just a few good impulse responses.
or is there a algorithm going on under the hood?

If the IRs are exceptional and it sounds good, $30 is not outrageous.
For IR reverbs, I like IMPULSation from Gospel Musicians as my AUv3.
MagicVerb is one of my favorite reverbs on iOS personally. I agree with @espiegel123 if it sounds good and you get use out of it, it’s worth $30.
Something unique about those few chambers IR that sound so great, especially on vocals. IMO, at this price it is a steal. Don't let the limited amount of control putting you off, you can go pretty deep. Couple this with EQ on a bus and you have sufficient control to make it fit in a mix. One of my go to with pro-R, crystalline. I like impulsation a lot too but the level of control inside the convolution reverb of LP4i is growing on me.
The developer of the DDMF apps is a hardware modeling genius. He decided to hold firm on pricing and there are cheaper options for his “studio hardware” apps. But none are better… just cheaper. But it’s tied to actual hardware so no extra “out of the box” thinking that most new FX apps investigate.
He has other reverbs too. But the “compressors” are where he shows the benefits of the good studio gear producers cover and spend big bucks acquiring.
Software has pretty much eaten up the hardware market for consumer class purchasing so someone that can emulate the joys of good hardware is worth supporting for $30 if you can hear the difference. Study the specs and you’ll benefit from confirmation bias and hear the most subtle qualities.
A/B comparisons will seem obvious if you can see the apps being used. Blind tests may show that you are still the weakest link… like I am.
Are you talking about magic verb?
Yep. Magic verb from DDMF. The chambers included sound great.
It’s very likely that those chambers in MagicVerb are samples of the Capitol studios echo chambers.
Yes. Christian documents their process in the app description and alludes to Ian’s engineering day job studio, Capitol Records
The famous circular building in “LA” (Holluwood?) where Frank Sinatra and many others made classic albums.
My favorite Magic Verb patch is main studio room. Digital Buddha is also good. It was worth the money to me, but I have pretty much all the reverb apps. They're all good.
Agreed. So many good reverbs on iOS and I pretty much love them all 😂
